***Why do they need to change history? ***

This is an extension of what has gone on in the public school classroom for a long time now. Changing history to suit a liberal agenda. Check out the history textbooks.

Oh, they don't teach history anymore. They just change it to suit the moment.

Sad, but when the Soviet's claimed the invention of "this and that", (like the telephone!) they were rewriting history for a political purpose. Somethings just don't change!
