Let me respectfully disagree. Bush is above average in intelligence, but he is not brilliant. Clinton proved that you could be brilliant, but if you have no clear vision, no character, and are amoral ----- you will be a terrible president. What Bush has, IMHO, is the ability to extract the best out of those around him. He does that by being genuine and sincere. He has management skills. He knows that the people around him will give it their all because they can trust him and they will always be treated fairly and with respect. He is the best kind of person for the job.

And such a person would be brilliant?

Now that is brilliance.

I just spent some time looking back at business news stories about "Motorola moving 36,000 jobs to China" as you say. I couldn't find anything about it. There was an article saying that Motorola was expecting job cuts, but it didn't say "massive" or even allude to any large cuts.

I did find out that they pay $1200/year per employee in China, which is good because it keeps down the price of my next computer.

Thirdly, the long-term solution is for Mexico to grow a middle class so that people don't feel like they have to come here to work.

In other words, it's up to the Mexicans to decide whether they want to live in Mexico or in the U.S. In fact, they can come here whenever they 'feel' they have to come here?

Very well put, indeed.

9.3: Motorola Boosts China Investment REUTERS | Wednesday November 7 1:59 AM ET | Jonah Greenberg BEIJING (Reuters) - U.S. telecommunications equipment giant Motorola Inc said on Wednesday it will invest $6.6 billion in China over the next five years and double the annual production of its Chinese subsidiary and joint ventures. Motorola's investment in China -- now a cumulative $3.4 billion since it first invested in China in 1992 -- would reach $10 billion by 2006, spokeswoman Shelagh Lester-Smith told Reuters. ``From its current level of $3.4 billion, it will have reached $10 billion of cumulative investment by the year 2006,'' she said. That would mean $6.6 billion of investment over five years, she said, ...

Seems to me the effect of Motorola becoming profitable would be good for shareholders, some of whom live in California. Slightly higher unemployment than the incredible lows of the late 90's will help all UZS businesses lowers costs by keeping labor expenses down to more managable levels. That means LESS jobs go overseas. Anyway, no one owes anyone a living. The lady engineer can go look for a job. Hopefully she saved her money (I understand engineers get paid well), and didn't overexpose herself to needless debt (fancy cars, big houses, credit cards, lavish vacations). If so, what's the problem? What do you think should be happening?

I had no trouble at all finding 100 articles documenting the subject. Maybe there is something wrong with your computer.

I thought folks would be commenting on this"

I'm getting ready to sign an education bill next week. It's a really good piece of legislation. I'm real proud of it. (Applause.)

I want to thank the teachers who are here and the people who are concerned about educating our -- making sure our public schools are the best they can be. And by the way, the cornerstone of that bill is that every child can learn. Every child in America. (Applause.)

And a lot of my friends in Midland, Texas are going to be amazed when I stand up and say nice things about Ted Kennedy. (Laughter.) He deserves it. He worked hard on this education bill. And I can proudly sign it and I can proudly say I appreciate Senator Kennedy's strong work and input into making this bill a good bill. (Applause.)

No. the reason they are coming here is because there are better paying jobs here than at home. This problem is not going to go away until the standard of living in Mexico is closer to America's. Why do we have this problem on our southern border and not on our northern?

The field workers come here because the American ranchers PAY THEM a livable wage. They work extremely hard (and buy our products, which means they pay Calif sales taxes). Face it, most unemployed whites think picking lettuce and strawberries is too good for them.

My congressman had me on a list and some tickets came in.

I guess I gotta move. My Congresspurse-on is a Democ, and the only list of hers I can get on is the one whose title I can't post here. If you want to know which party uses sycophants, RLK, pick the one which makes its livelihood out of creating and sustaining a government-dependent class.

Please note: when I named the party above, I was as nice as could be: I specifically omitted the "RAT" portion.

Yes or No Questions:

1) Do you think any company should be able to layoff part of its workforce as it thinks is necessary?

2) Do you think all employees should be guaranteed their job for life?

3) Would you personally be willing to pay 50% more for every product, starting today, if it meant that all U.S. layoffs could be prevented for the next 6 months?

4) Do you think that the government should create jobs by outlawing the ownership of backhoes so that another 40 men could be employed to dig the earth for each backhoe destroyed?

5) Should the government have a say in deciding which companies can layoff people or how many can be laid off?

6) Should a company bleed out with losses and bilk all of its creditors until it fully collapses instead of laying off a portion of people to keep the company alive and the rest of the workforce employed?

7) If you were laid off, would you think it was a good idea to immediately hire more people to work around your house?

8) Is there a such thing as "too much" profits that a corporation can make?

9) If you were on the Titanic that had just sunk, and you were in a 30 man liferaft that had 40 people on it and water right up to the gunnels, would you try to rescue 10 more people from the water?
