Yes, the rumors are true. I had the opportunity to ask our president a question today.
First, it began with a statement. Sorry, but I don't remember it exactly ----- Mr. President, my son-in-law recently returned from a cruise on the USS ENTERPRISE. He wants you to know that everyone on that ship, down to the last man and woman, is proud to call you their commander in chief.
He smiled and the crowd gave a huge standing O.
Then one of the event helpers tried to take away the microphone. I politely said no, I hadn't gotten to ask my question.
"Mr. President, now for my question. After you send Tommy Daschle to his room for being bad, please tell us how you plan to end our nation's dependence on foreign oil."
What a fun time and a great right wing audience!
A Guinness for your efforts; you did us proud.
From your link there, I found my favorite part of President Bush's speech (and since you already posted Dougie's contribution, I won't repeat that - that was GREAT Dougie!):
We have priorities in Washington. Defending our homeland is going to be a priority. A strong defense is a priority. But something that shouldn't be a priority is to raise your taxes. There's going to be people who say, we can't have the tax cut go through anymore. That's a tax raise. And I challenge their economics, when they say raising taxes will help the country recover. Not over my dead body will they raise your taxes. (Applause.)
I hope everyone takes Doug's example and starts "looking for the mike". The first time I was on talk radio, I was nervous as hell. But after a time or two, it gets easy. We Freepers are the real "missionaries" of conservatism; we all need to stretch out and look for new ways to personally get out the message, and TV and radio offer that opportunity.
I expect to see and hear more Freepers on the airwaves in the coming year, some of whom formerly might have been too shy to speak out except in this forum. Doug, we are all a little bolder now because of your good example.
RonDog, please put me on your ping list.Done.

Bush Vows No Tax Increases---snip--
'SPIRIT OF UNITY'
The Republican president also used his Saturday radio address to berate Senate Democrats, led by Daschle, for failing to ``even schedule a vote'' on an economic stimulus package that passed the Republican-led House of Representatives and would cost the federal government $90 billion next year and $214 billion over five years.``Some in the Senate seem to think we can afford to do nothing, that the economy will get better on its own sooner or later,'' Bush said. ``I say that if your job is in danger or you have a loved one out of work, you want that recovery sooner not later.''
He carefully avoided mentioning Daschle by name all day and refused to take the bait when one man prefaced a question by saying: ``After you make Tommy Daschle go to his room...''
Bravo, Doug!!
It was mighty good of you to say what the President couldn't say himself. Hee hee.
I am so proud of you Doug !!!!!!
(((((((((((((((((((((((((( HUG ))))))))))))))))))))))
My wife and I were watching, and knew it was him from our all having met at the LA's Westwood Federal Building for Bush street protests during the election debacle. You can't forget that voice and style.
Objectify, perhaps, a little more, Doug. Then continue to "Let 'er Rip!"
