Well perhaps the Justice Department and FBI have their plates full right now. There are only so many trustworthy and competent people at DOJ who are up to the job of fighting terrorism, and many Clinton era left overs. Allowing the Clinton era left overs or Congress to get a hold of evidence would likely lead to leaks and ruin the posibility of future criminal proceedings. Besides timing the release of these files with the next election cycle will do better damage to the Democraps.

There are a lot of plausible explanations for delay, but I'm with you on the value of timing; and not just for the next election cycle. I think there's enough to crush some and keep others at bay for years.

I'll give the benefit of the doubt and watch through the next election cycle. On the other hand, the decision by MJ Whitewash not to prosecute the Torch is very troubling.

Bush could have dumped the Clinton left overs and gone after Clinton when he came into Office. Waiting is only going to raise the question WHY didn't he prosecute while he had the chance.

The DoJ shouldn't be trying to fight terrorism anyway. Their job is to prosecute violations of federal law and terrorism is an act of war, not a simple crime. Ashcroft did diddly before 9/11 about Clinton's crimes and his FBI proved worthless at fighting terrorism then. What has he been doing to fight terrorism since? Diddly doodah, that's what, unless you count pushing for the repeal of the BoR.

Ashcroft is a career politician. He should step down and let a grownup take the reins at Justice, since he can't do anything but whine about the Constitution being in the way of his "success". Let him join Danforth in retirement where they can hold prayer meetings and perform butt covering investigations for the Clinton administration together.
