We had another one in the Air Force..."There are old pilots and there are bold pilots, but there are no old bold pilots". I would hazard a guess the Captain will turn out to be an ex-military pilot and for sure he is well aware of his responsibilities.

I gotta go with the "pro-pilot" bunch here. I'm an airline captain and have been flying in command of large multi-engine jet aircraft for the past 24 years. (counting military and civilian) I have always taken my job seriously, especially when it comes to the safety of my passengers and crew. I have always had the authority to deny boarding of anyone or anything at anytime. In all the 24 years I've had that power, I've used it only a small number of times. In each case, I evaluated all pertinent data and used my judgement and experience. I'm quite sure this AA captain did the same thing. He must be backed, as there can not be any other alternative to this policy. Second guessing and Monday morning quarterbacking earn you nothing. In my opinion, if the flight took place and arrived safely at it's original destination, then the captain made ALL the right decisions. Leave racism, prejudice and any other subject besides SAFETY out of this!

This guy should only be focusing on flight crew and instrument business, not hashing it out with some unruley passenger.

Wrong. The pilot in command is in charge of everything associated with the operation of the aircraft, PERIOD.
Now, you and others may not like that, but that rule is written in stone. An aircraft is not run like a democracy; it is totally authoritarian. Why? Because it works.

Talk about distractions!! If this jerk is successful, think of the turmoil THAT would cause.

I'm a private pilot too, and my Jeppesen FAR manual defines the "Pilot in Command" as - The pilot responsible for the operation and safety of an aircraft during flight time.

Any issue brought to his attention that may effect the outcome of the flight belongs soley to the pilot. The pilot has the final say because of accountability, the same as in maritime law and the captain's decision being the law aboard ship because of his accountability.

You are correct on the issue of pilot-in-command. What few of the detractors on this site have considered is WHY WAS THE CAPTAIN CONSULTED on the problem? The answer is because on ALL armed individuals, the Captain IS ALWAYS consulted. I am a pilot for a major airline, and whenever an armed individual flies, his REQUEST form is seen by and APPROVED OR DISAPPROVED by the Captain. The Captain's word is final. In addition, the Captain is REQUIRED to deny boarding to any hostile person carrying a firearm - REGARDLESS of their paperwork. The Secret Service Agent should appreciate a LAW ABIDING Captain.

The day the Captain has to take any government employee as a passenger, against his better judgement, that is the day I take the bus.

In the FAA, we were allowed to take airline flights, in the cockpit, after proper paperwork and ID were checked by the Captain. If for any reason, he did not like our looks, he could have thrown us off and the FAA would have said nothing, simply because that is his duty, his job, something the race baiters here cannot accept.

This professional agent, standing in front of the presidential podium, is sweeping the crowd with his keen eyes. Just as this agent's gaze is about to fall upon the assasin, who is raising a weapon from beneath his coat just feet from the president, someone else in the crowd, close to this agent but just outside the agent's immediate scan field, yells "Hey raghead!".

I agree. If the pilot doesn't feel comfortable flying with a certain cargo, he should refuse to take off. If the airlines want to put on some other pilot who will fly with the suspect cargo, and the rest of the passengers, duly informed want to go on with the flight, let them. This whole thing is the usual ethnic sucking off of the judicial system. I have had small experience with the secret service but enough to know that, just as with pilots and ship captains, what they say goes in their bailiwick. A secret service agent ought to respect security and authority and this one is a disgrace. Now for the time being, people who look like the ones who did the WTC job and the Pentagon job and about 5000 other terroristic acts in the last several decades might as well get used to the idea that until people who look like them start taking care of the problem of other people who look like them picking on the rest of us, we are not obliged to be obliging to them. I am absolutely disposed to believe that many, indeed most,of these terrorists are known to others who look like them who could report them but don't because of religious and ethnic ties. Did I mention that I have very little sympathy for this agent!

Sorry. Pilot was acting like a cowboy. Tossed one of America's finest off a plane for no good reason. SS men are too well trained and too carefully selected for things to have happened the way the pilot says. And witnesses so far seem to cast doubt on his version of events. I hope AA gets taken to cleaners.

Moreover, pilots are not trained to make sound judgements in cases like these. That's evident by the fact that he apparently refused to pick up the phone and make a call to check this out. Absolutely ridiculous in light of the fact that the SS agent had already been cleared for the first leg of his flight. This pilot needs to take some down time until he gets his head right.
