I'm not sure how to respond to you. I know you feel Buchanan's views are objectionable. I don't.
Despite the validity of Buchanan's points, his views have been marginalized to the point that I don't think anyone is going to confuse them with the Republicans. It is this very point that I lamented last year. The Republicans disagree with views that simply cannot be refuted. For me that is a problem.
The problem is that Buchanan has gone from being merely a conservative dissident - to spouting what in reality is dressed-up Klan rhetoric. There isn't a lot of difference in the viewpoints. Granted Buchanan doesn't burn crosses or wear a white hood - but take a close look at what he's saying - that non-whites for some fundamental reason can't participate in the social and economic life of American. That non-whites are a threat to the religious foundations of America. That non-whites are inherently incapable of being successful. I haven't heard him mention interracial marriage but I expect it soon.
Pat doesn't use the crude language of the KKK - but the ideas are all-but-identical.
