LOL! Correct me if I am wrong, but I thought that buchanan detested the UN -- now you are telling me he is using statistics from the UN! Figures!

Unintentional humor is the best kind :-))

Long live the Irish Catholic Bully

Seems Patty needs some additional $$$, what with a hugely devisive and abortive run for the Presidency.

This guy and his sister remind me of the Catholic school kids I used to see in those days when the sons and daughters of 2nd and 3rd generation Irish immigrants went to these schools.

Patty has been successful in crafting a bogus legacy from the tattered experiences of the Nixon Whitehouse plus some other B.S. positions he has had.

GWB would be lucky to have a job being a used car salesman if his daddy wasn't GHWB.

Tell that to the State of Texas. They elected him governor twice.

The 4.2 million Palestinians in Israel and on the West Bank and Gaza will explode to 9 million by 2025, and 15 million by 2050, when Palestinians will outnumber Israel’s Jewish population two-to-one.

Yasser's just waiting for that magic 70:1 ratio. By about 2525, I reckon, he'll have it.

I said nothing of the sort. Let's have and enforce immigration laws that are colorblind.

Oops, now you are starting to sound like Buchanan.

We'd lose about half our engineering and science grad students with a complete moratorium; but if intended as a temporary measure to sort things out, it sounds good.

That is an assertion. It is not true in any sense.

A culture has no awareness of its own "race". A culture is an "reflection" of the commonly held beliefs and traditions of a group of people that associate themselves to one another. That is the essence of the " culture war" that is going on now. It is also the basis for the hope of a more united states; that we as a nation can have a "culture" that is not dependent on one's race.

Glad this post seems to be making it. I was writing on one and it was deleted so I posted it again and my post was deleted. Glad to see you are here. This needs to be discussed.

I know the type. The puggish look, the bullying sneer.

My Polish-American relative used to refer to the Church in America as "one holy IRISH and Apostolic Church."

I don't understand Buchanan's use of the term "the West." Is he using it to denote race and geography, or ideology and values?

If it's western ideologies he's worried about, does that mean he wants communism to stick around? Communism is a western idea. Thus, if our goal is to preserve western ideas, we shouldn't be worried about China growing in population. But Buchanan, of course, is against that.

It would seem that Buchanan defines "the West" along racial and geographical lines. If not, he shouldn’t use such a broad term.

What do we do? Which is worse isolationism or global socialism? There is no alternative to these choices in American politics.

Isolationism is far worse. We have already been down that road. Anybody who has a vestigial memory of Pearl Harbor can tell you where isolationism leads. Our enemies will conspire against us no matter where we hide -- whether it's on our own soil or someone else's. Better to take the fight to them than cower on our own soil and wait for them to attack us here.

""Scary predictions indeed .... But I have seen the Mexican revolutionaries ("Zapatistas") who are working in Califonria fast food restaurants and their goal is to take back the state from the "Anglos" .... I have also seen them spit into the food they serve.""

As a Californian, I can tell you that Pat is speaking the GOSPEL TRUTH !!!!!!

Diego Rivera, Frida Kahlo, Jose Clemente Orozco, Juan O'Gorman (all artists), Octavio Paz (winner of the Nobel Prize in literature, and praised by Tom Fleming to boot). Let's not forget the great ruins of Palenque and Teotihuacan, all of which put the Egyptians to shame.

Add in the murals of Fernando Castro Pacheco in Merida, ruins in Uxmal, Chichen Itza, El Tajin--and that's just a start.

The culture in Mexico is rich and varied, for anyone who bothers to look.

Don't matter to me, I won't be around in 2050, as for those that will, well, nothing lasts forever.

While I don't agree with alot of Buchannan's take on this issue, if the founding fathers had portrayed your selfish attitude then you wouldn't be able to enjoy the lifestyle that you have since your birth. Most of the founding fathers never realized their dream for this country in their lifetime, it was their children (and you) who reaped the benefits of their selfless sacrifice.

So I guess that whole business about avoiding entangling alliances was a mistake that the Founders made? Too bad you weren't around back then to set them straight.

Sadly, President Washington was not able to foresee the jet age, when populations or armies or weapons of mass destruction can traverse oceans in hours or minutes.

Finally, without a doubt, the immigrant should speak FLUENT ENGLISH, and should have a college degree

Under such criteria, my great-grandparents would not have made it into this country. Besides, we can't exactly get the native-born ghetto thugs to do our landscaping now, can we?

Abolish family reunification. Let the men come here and work. Its that simple.
