Whine posts dumped into Breaking News generally don't last long here...

I really am going to get it for saying this, but this would not be a great nation if it hadn't been settled by Europeons. Look around the world today and tell I am wrong. Once the white European races are marginalized the world has little to look forward to.

Apparently you don't take the Fouding Fathers bit about "citizen-politicians" very seriously. Would you be happier if he had been a corporate lobbyist? Or how about a rich daddys-boy who never had to work a day in his life? You need to wake up.

No, it is you who need to wake up. Buchanan's ideas are borrowed from the 19th century. We have already seen where such isolationism leads us (WWI, Pearl Harbor, etc), and it ain't pretty. Sad to say, the world does need a policeman. Our military is the only insulation that we have against tyranny. And that tyranny is now trying to come home to us. Building a wall around the country (as Buchanan would like to do) won't keep you safe. Nor will creating protectionist tariffs. Nor will covering your eyes and hoping that the bad guys will just leave us alone if we promise not to put troops overseas. We are past the point of no return as an economic power. It is our economic strength that causes us to be a threat to many uncivilized nations -- and Pat would like us to simply back out and ignore the problem. Sorry, no takers here.

As for qualifications for office, Buchanan is not fit to lead this country. He hasn't so much as held a political office -- not even dogcatcher. Bush has been twice governor of the State of Texas. Daddy couldn't buy that election for him. He did it on his own. So, scoff if you will, but at least Bush earned the presidency. Buchanan, by comparison, is an empty suit.

Outside of that, though, one can take what is written about the Mexicans and Chinese today, replace it with what was written about the Irish and Germans 150 years ago, and it would read almost exactly the same.

Let's have and enforce immigration laws that are colorblind.

Here's the problem. Suppose we introduce a law that requires new immigrants to have the equivalent of an American high school education. Although this standard is race-neutral, it would still be decried as "racist," since its impact would be to make a lot of people in third world nations like Mexico ineligible as immigrants.

I hope not. Although I can tell you as a Miami resident, that relatively few Cubans are coming to this country at the present moment (the biggest wave came in the 1960s-70s).

There is always that possibility but the chances of that are nil to none. That is their decision - not mine.
