"Former officials of the Bush and Reagan Administrations say that, in retrospect, the Government was remarkably lax about lab security in the 1980's, even during the Reagan Administration's arms buildup. "‘It is quite clear now that things were far too casual,’ James R. Lilley, the Ambassador to China from 1989 to 1991 and then a senior Defense Department official, said in an interview today. Mr. Lilley, who for years served as one of the Central Intelligence Agency's top operatives in Asia, including in China, said: ‘This has been going on for a long, long time. We had Ministry of State [Security] defectors and other Chinese who became agents, and they made it clear that this was a top priority of their industrial and intelligence apparatus.’"
"COX COMMITTEE TAKES A DIVE ON U.S. BUSINESS'S TREASONOUS BETRAYAL OF U.S. NATIONAL SECURITY INTERESTS TO PROFIT FROM TRADE WITH RED CHINA

You'll have to ask Congressman Chris Cox (R-Calif.), Chairman of the House of Representatives China Commission, why no one is being held accountable for the turnover of American defense assets and military secrets to the People's Liberation Army of Communist China.

Perhaps it's because both the Bush and Clinton administrations each are guilty of facilitating such transfers.

Perhaps it's because both Republicans and Democrats have benefited from campaign contributions by U.S. corporations doing business with Red China.

Perhaps there's some other reason about which it would possibly be unfair to speculate.

"TUT-TUT" FOR TREASON ISN'T ENOUGH

But the reality is that Mr. Cox and his colleagues have issued a largely irrelevant "tut-tut", when, in fact, a few treason trials would seem to be more appropriate.

Engaging Red China
"Whatever the price of the Chinese Revolution, it has obviously succeeded not only in producing more efficient and dedicated administration, but also in fostering high morale and community of purpose.... The social experiment in China under Chairman Mao's leadership is one of the most important and successful in human history."
David Rockefeller, 1973

I guess the folks for whom I feel the most sorry are the starry-eyed libertarian sorts who've somehow confused capitalism with democracy or freedom and missed entirely the lessons of Lenin's NEP.

Where capitalism and capitalists have failed to heed the essential Christian caveats on capitalism, they end up far more closely aligned with fascism and socialism than they do Christianity.

Hear!Hear! and well said.

The Representative Republic form of Government that we have now makes (or should make) our leaders accountable without being subject to the ever changing whims of our popular culture.

In a perfect democracy.. we would all vote on the bills before Congress and the Media scare machine would turn Americas stupid against us with fearmongering and lies to a much greater degree than they do now

EXACTLY! Does the name Clinton ring a bell? 8 years of leadership(?) by polling, and look at what resulted.

As much as I may dislike PTR for China, the annual congressional show granting Normal Trade Relations was a joke anyway, and was a waste of taxpayer money and time since the result was inevitably going to be the same.

If our congress were ever to develop the backbone to deny NTR, they will likewise rescind PTR (since Permanent does not mean permanent)

Things Clinton would have been roasted for now get a FR shrug!!

Isn't that the truth. On this board, Fox News could broadcast footage of having the Secret Service drive him and Laura up to a bank, pull out AK-47's, rob the bank, get back into the presidential limo and drive back to the White House with nary a dissenting voice.

Buy me a Myers and Coke at Pat O's and we'll call it even.

Please see reply #199.

Also note the reference to treason, a point that has been debated on other threads by katze.

I don't think you're stupid, I just question whether it makes sense to believe that this is truly a PERMANENT war on terrorism that will require permanent curtailment of civil rights. And G.W. Bush is far from a fuhrer. He'll be gone in eight years too, so it really doesn't matter if he thinks this is a PERMANENT war. We're in control, remember? If we think these laws are being carried beyond their time, we can vote the bums out who fail to repeal the laws in a timely fashion when they are no longer appropriate.

You also failed to mention whether you find any of these laws appropriate at this time, though I assume you don't. Perhaps you could explain why.

Response to info in reply #199:

In my opinion, the security at the labs during Reagan and then Bush adminstrations was deliberately allowed to be lax (known to the FBI and CIA at the time)to provide a cover, plausible deniability for the Reagan/Bush secret policy to transfer US missile defense and US nuclear weapons technology (neutron bomb design according to Sam Cohen) to Russia and China.

These transfers also involved nuclear transfers by Peter Lee (known to CIA agent George Carver, a protege of Bush Sr.)Peter Lee was an associate and friend of Win Ho Lee. Peter Lee worked first at Lawrence Livermore Labs and later at LosAlamos Labs. Wen Ho Lee continued the transfer of nuclear legacy codes to the Chinese at LosAlamos as part of the Bush Sr policy and while Wen Ho Lee's wife worked directly for the CIA and the FBI!! This info has been well documented with articles and posts on recent threads (about a week ago) on FR.

My opinion is also based on personal interviews that were conducted with me by Reagan/Bush administration officials in 1983 about SDI(missile defense) . And my opinion is also based on info I know of about Army intelligence being deliberately ignored and taken off the case when they tried to get the FBI and the Bush adminstration to do something about the transfer of US missile defense technology to CHina (this was a second case that I was not involved in). Anthony Kimery wrote about this in 2000 and the article was posted on FR in 2000-I have not been able to recover the article from the FR archives yet. I spoke directly to Kimery about his story and my story in 2000.

The chairman of the Senate Intelligence committee was Democratic Senator David Boren of Oklahoma(very close friend and associate of Admiral Crowe and CIA director George Tenet)in the 1980s and he was aware of these transfers to Russia and China and covered them up. I provided Boren's senior staff proof about these transfers in 1988. Boren is a very strong world government advocate and a left wing liberal IMHO based on my knowledge of what he has said and done for years in and out of Oklahoma (currently chancelor of the University of Oklahoma)

The legal counsel for the Senate Intelligence committee, Joan Grimson was aprised of these matters in 1999 by me including hard written evidence and documents. She told me that my information was consistent with conditions that she and members of the intelligence committee knew existed at the labs since 1982 (and at the time Boren was the Chairman of the Senate Intell committee)!

IRONWORD! I really feel sick to my stomach, especially when I think of all the churches that won't be preaching repentance again this Sunday, or this year, or this decade.

Or out right support and approval. Totally full circle. And the rampant political correctness is at an all time high. People are falling all over themselves to be PC on FR. Go figure.

The value of FR was it's independence..that is gone. There is no more watchdog here. when we speak up we are silenced with intimidation and name calling..the bible says to beware of wolves in sheeps clothing..the freeple sheeple think he is one of their own..I am beginning to think we need to peek under that coat :>)
