Tampa church decides to accept toys collected by strippers

Monday, December 24, 2001

Associated Press

TAMPA — A church decided to accept more than 1,000 gifts gathered by strippers who flashed their breasts for a toy donation at a Brandon club.

"We do not condone the way that they were collected ... but we appreciate the donation," said Jennifer Mallan, a spokeswoman for Without Walls International Church. "We'll bless it and we'll distribute it."

The large church distributes new toys and food every year to families in need.

Between 700 and 1,000 parents registered their children for age-appropriate gifts and picked them up Saturday at the church's ninth annual Christmas Extravaganza

Church officials didn't know what to do after learning Friday how the gifts were collected. A disc jockey had promised them a truckload of toys but they didn't know he had told listeners they could get a sneak peek if they brought their donations to the Deja Vu strip club.

Gifts included everything from Barbies to board games to bicycles.

After talking it over, church leaders agreed it was best to pass out the gifts as planned, Mallan said.

"There is a tremendous need in the community," she said. "The stories we've heard are heartbreaking. There are a lot of families who don't have anything."

Several parents said they don't care how the gifts were collected or that strippers were involved.

"Whatever they did, it was for a good cause," said Darlene Brown, a mother of three. "They were trying to show compassion."

Reminds me of my old boss who described market positioning and sales strategy at a company presentation: "If it's green, we'll take it."

"If it's green, we'll take it."

I can't recall if it was Wesley or one of the later circuit riders who was presented with money from questionable sources. A parishioner said, "Sir that's the devil's money."

The preacher replied, "Well, the devil's had it long enough."

The most beautiful Church in Brooklyn New York is not the cathedral, but Regina Pacis in the Dyker Heights section of Brooklyn. It is beautiful largely due to the munifescence of one Paul Castellano, a man who made his living from businesses far more nefarious than "stripping."

As a native NYer, I have read plenty of NY Post articles about the person you mentioned.

Merry Christmas, Clemenza. :)

Funny you should ask! I just recently looked, but didn't see it yet. But, I'm sure he will. :)

With apologies to Clark Clement Moore (and likely some people here):

She was not dressed at all, from her head to his foot,
Except for a pair of long leather boots.
A bundle of toys she had flung on his back,
Santa’s helper, au natural, carrying a pack.

Her eyes--how they twinkled! Her dimples, how merry!
Her cheeks were like roses, her nipples like cherries!
Her red little mouth in a small cupid’s bow,
And heart-shaped pattern shaved down below.

The tips from admirers she held tight in her teeth,
And cigar smoke encircled her head like a wreath.
She had a fair face and a flat, well-toned belly.
Her breasts shook when she laughed, like two bowls full of jelly.

Did any of those strippers contribute edible thongs? That would take care of BOTH food AND clothing.

Thanks for posting these uplifting messages from Gov Bush.

(Somehow I think I might get a slap in the face from one Summer. My only excuse is that I am quickly working my way thru fermented Canadian grain on the rocks. PJ---Naaaaasty Boy!!!)
