Poll: IF, and this is a BIG if...

Posted on 12/21/2001 6:52:48 PM PST by LSUsoph

Dick Cheney due to health reasons decides to withdrawl his name from the ticket in 2004 after a very successful term as Vice President. He figures he can still stay close to the President and advise him in any way possible, but not have to deal with the every day hustle of being the Vice-President of the country. So who would President Bush pick to be his new VP? I think Condi Rice would be a wonderful choice but I dont know if this country (especially the Republican Party) is ready for a VP who is black, a woman, and from the South (Alabama). I also love Powell but would he and Pres Bush be able to work hand in hand as P-VP? Donald Rumsfeld is a terrific Sec of Defense and I think he would make a great President one day...maybe him being VP could lead us to 8 great years of a Rumsfeld Presidency after 8 great years of Bush. Other candidates that come to mind would be Tom Ridge, Liddy Dole, Ashcroft, and dare i say it...JOHN MCCAIN ( i know, i know, but i think the Bush-MCcain ticket would be a shoe in). My pick would have to be Rice, she is worth her weight in Gold. She is a genius, works well with Bush, and would really be great for the country. And what would the naysayers say after Bush nominates a black woman to be his right hand WOMman?? I think they would just have to throw up the white flag! GO DUBYA!

The no-abortion-ever subclass only represents 17% of all Americans.

And the any-abortion-always subclass represents about 8% of all Americans.

Believe me we DO NOT have to stop fighting for LIFE to accomplish our LARGER conservative agenda.. PRO-LIFE is just one issue and if we cave in on that issue we will LOSE our NATIONAL MORALITY which is a far greater loss than a seat in congress..

not one pro-life zealot among you has admitted the battle is being lost

That is because the battle is being won, and we are marching from victory to victory. In this time of war, those who urge pre-emptive surrender in any cause, cowardly, uninformed, hand-wringers are not generally welcome, in either the war on terrorism or the war against abortion.

Many of us care that babies are being destroyed. I would vote for a Pro-Life Democrat in a heart beat if the Republican canidate was Pro-abortion. Would you vote for Hitler? The issue of abortion is about equivalent in my eyes. What is the difference in killing adult humans or killing helpless little babies in the womb?

Actually I would NOT vote for a PRO-LIFE Democrat, because I KNOW better.. If he/she was REALLY PRO-LIFE they would be in the GOP !!

I think we should insist that our candidates take a stand one way or the other.. and quit trying to play this "middle of the road" garbage that has brought us to the point that we are now.. TOO FEW "average citizens" know the difference between the (D) and the (R) we need to make sure we get the message out LOUD AND CLEAR that there really is a HUGE difference.. ALL too often we try to "tone down" the differences to bring in the middle of the roaders instead forcing them to pick a side and FIGHT !!

The answer is the Republican Party has been ready for that for years, the problem is she thinks it's great that mother's have the right to kill their own children. The Republican Party isn't ready for that.

Oh? And these are the same who tolerated the likes of Jim Jeffords for quite some time before he jumped ship, no? I don't think the issue is "pro-choice". I don't see the party doing much to fight that issue, IMHO.

It's a source of wonder to me that when people are put forward as viable Republican candidates, suddenly there is a rush to verify the person's credentials IF he/she is not part of the "in crowd". Just try to let a Brett Schundler go forward (or Alan Keyes) and we work overtime to blunt the sharp edges of their uncompromising conservatism so as to continue to prop up the "big tent". The GOP readily swallows a camel of a candidate in Bloomberg, but strains at Schundler? Please...

Speaking of Keyes, seems that everytime Keyes gets mentioned for office, the same old tired things get pulled out: "he's never held elective office (as if that helped Bill Clinton, Ted Kennedy, or Gray Davis, or hindered Senator Hillah "The Hun" Clinton); "he stands for ". The irony is that in Keyes' case, he's rejected because he's often said to be TOO pro-life.

I think it has very little to do with a candidate's stand on a given issue (within a BROAD spectrum of acceptable possibilities ranging from hardcore pro-life to pro-choice (Christine Whitman)); it has a great deal more to do with the party's perception of a given candidate's elective potential and that DOES, by the way, encompass race.

I think Alan Keyes would make a GREAT candidate, however he does not currently have the "broad support" that you talk about.. that is okay, our party needs to encourage candidates that are percieved as being "hard right" because that is the only thing that will draw the "middle right" to the "hard right" where IMHO we are heading under President Bush's Leadership.. One step at a time... Onward to Victory !!

Almost 70! That's a youngster in political life spans (remember Reagan?). Rummy would be a great choice!

Sorry sweetie, you can whine all you want; but as I've told you before, Auntie just doesn't have the heart to have a battle of wits with an unarmed man.
