"You got me plum-hypnotized," Elmer Gantry says to Sister Sharon Falconer in that film/novel.
Is that the case with me over Joyce Meyer?
She seems pretty good at down-home preachin'. And while not a classic beauty, she yet ministers out a fair amount sex appeal, along with the word.
(I think, ultimately, it's those Texas/Missouri eyes.)
I post this to philosophy since, as I know she has a fair amount of, at least internet detractors, it yet seems that her ability to project the Word, is as anchored in the integrity of faith as any other TV preacher I can recall.
...Except perhaps the late Bishop Fulton J Sheen.
In short though, Meyer lately fascinates me, and I'm curious what other Freepers may think. Particularly Evangelicals!
Thanks, and Merry Christmas to All!
Here it is: Where does a person wind up if he gets in a boat with a one-armed boat rower?
I'd rather remain a child of the King thanks anyway though. But then again you spiritual journey has not been mine and vice versa. I've came through some trials that some could not begin to imagine. No not because of my strenght or character. It was GOD who saw me through. It was Christ who was there at the casket with me 16 years ago when I told my most beloved good-bye.
It was Christ who was with me in the car 5 months later with a new love going 90 MPH in a car speeding to the hospital doors. It was Christ presense she was experiencing as she was describing to me the peace she felt while she was fading away. It was Christ who a week later in the hospital room was there when the preachers layed on hands for healing. It was Christ who told me "It's OK" though at that time I knew not what it meant. It was Christ who brough her the Nuns to minister to her and prepare her for abandonment by her very parents, It was Christ who years later was in the car again with us again speeding to the hpospital with her comatose in drug induced hytothermia from a dentist, It was Christ who was with me the night our daughter was injured in a car wreck. It was Christ who gave me the strength to care not for one but two till she healed. It was Christ not me or my strenghts.
Lessons come in various forms. GOD deals with us on his terms. I was too immature to be a dad to two step daughters. My own family questioned my judgement in marrying a quadriplegic 7 years older with two daughters. Carefull prayer was given to that decession. Yes GOD is true to his word "It's OK!" It's great!
It is Christ that even after my own body and mind has been stricken to the point of disability that allows me to care for both of us.
The Grace of GOD is sufficent for the day. I can go deeper into GODs hand in our very lives but the point is made. My first wife was a JW who excepted Christ. Will I see her again? Yes I will thankfully she heard the call and answered. I know that much. Why was she taken away? 16 years ago that tormented me. Today I see his works and blessings. I would not trade places with anyone for health nor money. Did GOD heal her at the laying of hands? No instead he healed a broken spirit that night. My own.
I've seen some good fine Christian ministries slandered in these so called exclusive web exposee sites listing the so called hethern preachers. One of them is Joni Erickson Tada and her ministry.
Oh how so quick we forget what ministery actually is. To those who even offer a drink of water in my name....
I can paddle a boat from one side and keep it pretty straight on course. My dad taught it to me when I was a kid. You simply turn the paddle or back paddle a little to steer it. Don't believe me? Try it.
It was not my intent to "twist" your words..
What if God had said no and had not given you what you wanted. Would you have failed to believe then? Was your faith based on God meeting your needs?
My question was based on that ..Did your prayer change God's plan? Or were your prayers in line with God's plan?
An example..You want the promotion at work so you pray for it..God has a plan that you will relocate to Buffalo so you can become involved in a certain ministry. ..Now the choice...does God answer your "faith " prayer..and change His plan just to please you? Or does he refuse your prayer request so you will be available to move next spring?
Would you still believe in Him ?
If God bends over to please you and meet your need who is God you or Him?
I thank God for using that ministry to proclaim the gospel to areas that would have otherwise been unreachable!
You are quite the tap dancer, aren't you!
Yes I do want the Chapter and verse in context please.
That tells me that God can't lie, and if HE says I am to have something, then I should have it. If I don't have it, it must be MY fault, not His because He already said it.
So let me get this straight..God's sole purpose is to meet your desires and needs.Just who is God in your relationship?
Look at His prayer:
Hallowed be thy name
May we keep God's name holy May we always remember that God is holy, and that we may show Him reverence that He deserves.
Thy Kingdom Come: God's Kingdom comes to us when our heavenly Father gives us His Holy Spirit. May God be Lord in our life May we seek His kingdom first
Thy will be done:
We pray for God's intervention in things of the World, Satan, and our sinful nature that is contrary to His perfect will. We MUST surrender to God's will, and ask that He help us do His will. May God lead us, and show us his will for our specific situation. May God give us the courage, strength, and power to do that which He shows us.
Give us this day our daily bread:
We depend on God for our temporal needs We are thankful for ways in which He meets those needs God is faithful, we do not need to worry about those needs .
Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us:
I recognize my need for forgiveness, and my failures and understand the source of weakness in others. We as that God forgive us, and not deny our prayer because of them. We will strive to sincerely forgive and gladly do good to those who sin against us. God expects us to forgive each other, and will help us if we ask.
Lead us not into temptation: We are asking God to lead us away from temptation, for we are weak, we have surrendered to God, and ask that He save us from ourselves.
We pray that God would guard and keep us so that Devil, the world, and our sinful nature may not deceive us or mislead us into false belief, despair, shame, and vice.
Deliver us from evil:
May God protect us from Satan, and all evil to the body and soul.
Yes, this is a "perfect" prayer but as in all prayer we must be willing to commit BY FAITH to what we are asking. While giving this prayer as a model of how to pray we must also read further into the chapter for more clarification on asking and receiving. Jesus, in Luke 11:5-13 expounds upon prayer. He does not leave it as simple as reciting a form prayer.
No my answer again displeased you because it went out of your relm of absolutes. Any person that has been on a river or lake long knows you can row or paddle one handed and from one side. I would actually prefer it to oar locks as you can in that manner rest each arm and paddle from the other side a while. Maybe not as fast but you get there just the same. BTW go either to the bow or stern of the boat as it makes it even easier. But you can steer even ore locks this way skill and experience is the key. Watch a team of rowers sometime or a person in a canoe. You won't steer in circles long till you learn to correct. :>}
Psa 138:1 [[[A Psalm] of David.]] I will praise thee with my whole heart: before the gods will I sing praise unto thee.
138:2 I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name.
138:3 In the day when I cried thou answeredst me, [and] strengthenedst me [with] strength in my soul.
138:4 All the kings of the earth shall praise thee, O LORD, when they hear the words of thy mouth.
138:5 Yea, they shall sing in the ways of the LORD: for great [is] the glory of the LORD.
138:6 Though the LORD [be] high, yet hath he respect unto the lowly: but the proud he knoweth afar off.
138:7 Though I walk in the midst of trouble, thou wilt revive me: thou shalt stretch forth thine hand against the wrath of mine enemies, and thy right hand shall save me.
Psa 138:8 The LORD will perfect [that which] concerneth me: thy mercy, O LORD, [endureth] for ever: forsake not the works of thine own hands
Even the blind can see that the poster in now way said what you are saying. If God has promised us something then He has already made provisision for that promise. It is done. All we have to do is act upon His word thus releasing the provision ( already made ) of the promise. If we don't act upon the word, believeing by faith, is that God's fault?
Now you're getting the point! :D Thats what I am hoping you will do with those heretical and aberrant doctrines. Stop going in dead-end circles .... learn to correct them so you can go straight! :D
What does it make any difference what "I" think? What does God say?
Chrsit is the Word. Do I exhalt Him above the name of God? The two are the same yet different. Answering that question is trickier than you might believe. First, you have to look at at the definition of the Hebrew word used for "word: in this scripture. Then you have to examine the word "word" itself in the context in which it is used in the Psalms I quoted.
The word used here is 'imrah meaning the written word of God. God Himself magnified His word ( His laws, His promises, His judgements, etc ) above His own name. Reference Isaiah 42:21 where we are told "The Lord is well pleased for His righteousness' sake; He will magnify the law and make it honorable". The word for magnify here, just as in the Psalms is gadal, meaning to make great or powerful.
God has made himself known to us in many ways in creation and providence, but most clearly by his word. The judgments of his mouth are magnified even above those of his hand, and greater things are done by them. The wonders of grace exceed the wonders of nature; and what is discovered of God by revelation is much greater than what is discovered by reason. In what God had done for David his faithfulness to his work appeared more illustriously, and redounded more to his glory, than any other of his attributes.
