Curious About Freeper's Views Of Joyce Meyer

"You got me plum-hypnotized," Elmer Gantry says to Sister Sharon Falconer in that film/novel.

Is that the case with me over Joyce Meyer?

She seems pretty good at down-home preachin'. And while not a classic beauty, she yet ministers out a fair amount sex appeal, along with the word.

(I think, ultimately, it's those Texas/Missouri eyes.)

I post this to philosophy since, as I know she has a fair amount of, at least internet detractors, it yet seems that her ability to project the Word, is as anchored in the integrity of faith as any other TV preacher I can recall.

...Except perhaps the late Bishop Fulton J Sheen.

In short though, Meyer lately fascinates me, and I'm curious what other Freepers may think. Particularly Evangelicals!

Thanks, and Merry Christmas to All!

Joyce Meyer is awesome! Love to listen to her tapes or watch her videos. She is very well grounded in the Word of God. She has been through a lot of life's trials, and come out better as a person, through her dedication to the principles God has given her.

What I appreciate most about her is her down to earth approach to life's problems. And ... her ability to confront people with their own pre-conceived ideas which keep them from doing all God has called them to do.

My favorite thing she does is her robot! It runs around the stage and utters these words: what about me, what about me, what about me! She uses it to make people aware how selfish they are and all they think about is themselves instead of others.

God has truly blessed her with a special teaching ability. My bosses' husband, who is unsaved, even likes to listen to her tapes.

1 Corinthians 14

34 the women should keep silence in the churches. For they are not permitted to speak, but should be subordinate, as even the law says.
35 If there is anything they desire to know, let them ask their husbands at home. For it is shameful for a woman to speak in church.

I've been to two Hinn crusades where the people in wheel chairs leave devasted still in their chairs because "they don't have enough faith

This is the type of theology based on "experience" I was referring to.

I can also relate stories of people who have been devastated because of their mistaken belief that 'God killed our children,' 'God allowed my husband to commit suicide to teach us something,' 'God destroyed our house in a storm so we could learn to rely on Him' etc, etc, etc.

Today these people have turned their backs on God because their church mistakenly taught them that God was allowing these things or doing these things to punish/correct/teach them.

But neither your stories, or mine, change Scripture.

The daughters were not involved in any way in preaching or pastoring a church.

I agree they were not pastors. But to whom did they prophesy? [def. "to proclaim the word of God."]

". But I do not suffer a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, "

I really think Paul, in this verse, is talking of his preferences on woman, not God. He has done this in other places in scripture. ( 1 Cor 7:10 10 To the married I give this command (not I, but the Lord): A wife must not separate from her husband. 1 Cor 7:12 12 To the rest I say this (I, not the Lord): If any brother has a wife who is not a believer and she is willing to live with him, he must not divorce her.)
For him to declare that a woman may never teach is in conflict with scriptures, many that have been posted here.

About woman being silent in church. I read that in those days women and men sat on different sides of the church. It would have been turned into a circus if the woman were to holler over to their husbands asking what the teacher meant. This seems to explain why some scripture allows woman to prophecy and this one seems to contradict.

I believe that the culture of the time has to be brought into the translation. I also believe that scripture must interpret scripture, a truth sometimes not "the truth". Interpreting the verses you quoted as you have interpreted them would put other verses in conflict with them.
I know the bible is infallible so when I find what seems to be a conflict it is because I missed something

I disagree with about everything you suggest in post 143 and especially you tacitly implying I rely on experience for theology. But I,ve been called "full of crap", "a disciple of pharisees", and now one who bases theology on experience on this thread, simply for challenging a 50 year old theology that 1900 years of Christianity missed, or at least never wrote about; so let me just wish you a very Merry Christmas and may God bless you and your family throughout the new year.

There's yet a certain awe in a strong-willed woman.

"...who is unsaved...."

Wouldn't that seem the Lord's choice?

Otherwise, Meyer does seem a breath of fresh air. Until the first time she pulls a "healing" a la Benny Hinn.
I'll be outta there so fast....

Though her faith...or business sense, seems better grounded than that.

I repeat, Sex appeal while preaching the WORD? I don't give a crap about no strong willed woman! What does that have to do with what we are discussing?
As far as I'm concerned sex appeal does not belong in church. Why not a contest of who looks sexier in victoria's secret lingerie and pit anne, lisa, joyce and the rest and put then in a church setting to preach!!
Isn't there enough of the crap on t.v. and the movies, now we judge how sexy women are in a church setting.

"unsaved - the Lord's choice"

Sorry, salvation is our choice. God provided it - but it's up to us to ask and receive it. "It is God's desire that none should perish". However, God does not want robots, He wants people who want to worship Him. Sooooo, we have to choose Him.

God provides food for every bird - however, He doesn't throw it into the nest!

"I'd hope to be saved, but would not presume it"

Being saved is not just a hope, it is a reality. But only you can make it a reality in YOUR life. No one can do it for you. God stands at the door of your heart, ever waiting for you to ASK Him in.

The secret of knowing you're saved is "faith". Faith says, I believe God wants me to receive Him, through Jesus, as Savior and Lord. Faith is just believing, and speaking what you believe. Peter said, "we believe, therefore we speak".

In the scripture, Romans 10:9-10, it says (in part), "if you believe in your heart and say with your mouth, you will be saved".

This is done "in faith", meaning, when you believe in your heart and open your mouth and tell God you believe He has the ability to save you from eternal death, God WILL respond with salvation. You won't necessarily FEEL "saved", you won't necessarily FEEL any different at all (but some people do). But God has promised that His Spirit will bear witness with your spirit that you are a child of God.

Of course. The one time I would just jump in, ignore the article totally and make a sarcastic, sexist comment like that about the headline she turns out to be a minister with a masectomy.

Apologies.

the 4 daughters, and that they must have been a part of the early church.

... which they were obviously part of.

Just think- women part of the five fold ministry. Hope that does not ruin your theology.
