Politicians' approval ratings rise -- except for Davis

Californians are feeling better and better about the job performances of all of their elected officials except one: Gov. Gray Davis.

A Field Poll released Wednesday shows near-record high job approvals for the U.S. Congress and Sens. Barbara Boxer and Dianne Feinstein. President Bush recorded skyrocketing marks in a recent Field survey. Even the Legislature's image has partially recovered from a dip it took earlier this year in the heat of the state energy crisis, according to Wednesday's poll.

How sweet it is. This is going to be a great election year. The only thing they left out is how Riordan is up to his eyeballs in the power controversy as well.

Meanwhile the conservative, Bill Simon is cruising right along. Simon For Governor!

Bush has been giving Boxer and Feinstein a free ride, letting them pretend they are good, patriotic little Americans. But it's good news about Davis, though hardly surprising.

I kind of have mixed feelings here.

Davis is more conservative than Riordan. Simon and Jones are the best choices, but Jones has no money to capaign. If it is not Simon, I think Davis would be better than Riordan for conservatives. At least Davis is afraid to take on conservatives, while Riordan seems to enjoy it -- particularly on abortion and 2nd Amendment issues, not to mention getting rid of Prop 13.

Wow, the more I think about it, the more I would prefer Davis to Riordan.

Governor falls short of removing himself from seeking higher office, however

SACRAMENTO -- Governor Gray Davis on Wednesday indicated that he has no plans to run for the presidency, saying that in recent months his ``ambitions have been moderated.''

But in an interview with Mercury News editors and reporters, the governor stopped short of removing himself from a race for higher office. If he wins re-election in November, Davis will automatically rise toward the top of prospective Democratic candidates for 2004.

``I'm focused on being the best governor I can be, getting us through difficult times. I have no plans to do anything else,'' Davis said during an interview in his Capitol offices.

Citing the tough decisions he's had to make to navigate California through the electricity crisis, Davis said: ``My ambitions have been moderated by just trying to keep the lights on,'' adding that he is ``very proud of the progress we've made.''

You are not the only one that thinks that. If I lived in California, I'd vote for Davis over Riordan. I wouldn't even go libertarian in that race. I want Riordan GONE. He came out for a handgun ban. Not even Davis goes that far.

I'd be willing to bet that most people have no idea exactly what either Boxer or Feinstein have done recently. Most people are completely clueless. High approval ratings mean that they haven't done anything totally scandalous lately.

And by the way, Davis will get re-elected no problem. He has ushered in boatloads of illegals to insure enough of a margin to offset the legal voters in the state. That, and the lack of response to the massive vote fraud that occurs here.
