But on Dec. 7 Judge White found in favor of the city's claim that the children were in need of ``care and protection'' even though she found no evidence the children had been abused or neglected. This is ridiculous. Those children hadn't even read "Heather has two mommies". How could they expect to assimilate into society?

It takes a village you know, and apparently the village is pissed.

That set off a chain of complaints against the couple by the city. You'd think the city would have more pressing matters to worry about than whether homeschooled kids are tested.

If these parenets were good little soldiers instead of individualistic troublemakers, there'd be little or no problem. But no, they do want to fill out the stinkeeng forms, so too bad for them...LOSE CUSTODY OF YOUR CHILDEN. The state knows what's best. Comply or else. No room for glitches in the paperwork.

I understand how the parents feel, but if it were me I would fill out the silly reports rather than risk losing my kids. When you cross the Nanny State, you can get into unlimited trouble. Thank God the kids still are with their parents.

Well, with a Republican president and a Republican Congress federal education fascists are getting a huge increase in funds. What does anyone want to bet a nice chunk of it will go toward fighting people like this who actually want to give their children a decent education? The Repubs are as pro-big daddy government as the Dems. And this story demonstrates the result of that mentality.

Kim and George Bryant have argued it is their right to home school the children without filing reports or testing results with the city school department because, in their opinion, there's no such requirement in the U.S. Constitution.IT'S NOT JUST "THEIR OPINION"!! IT IS A FACT!!

I wouldn't mind being put in DSS custody on Sunday afternoons.

Time for a loud FREEP...
AND.... an excellent legal team, like Home School Defense Fund,
or American Center for Law & Justice (ACLJ);Jay Sekulow, et als.
Time for the people to kick the village's attitude...
Methinks

The trick is to slip under the radar. If you do come to the attention of the "authorities", do what you have to in order to get them to leave you alone, then move. As it stands now, though, I agree with the suggestion that this ought to be freeped.

lance,
How about some phone numbers and email addresses, time to freep these (the public servants that think they are our leaders) suckers.

``I'm not impressed with testing,'' she said. ``I don't think testing gives you a good picture of a child, really. I think it's very stressful on children to take tests. I don't find them necessary because I'm working with the children every day. I have a good handle on what they know.''Hmmmmm... Well nobody else knows, then, do they. I was homeschooled from 3rd grade up, and my mother recognized the importance of dragging our a$$es in to be tested by the state every year, because unless you plan to work at 7-11 or within the protective walls of religious/homeschool kingdom, having an impersonal measure of your scholastic progress makes it a hell of alot easier to get on with higher education etc. in the "outside world"...

HSLDA is noticeably absent mention in the article. I guess they never heard of "united we stand..."
