A U.S.-Based Al Qaeda 'Sleeper Cell' Was Poised to Launch a Post-Sept. 11 Attack on a Major Washington Target; Would-Be Terrorists Went Underground or Fled U.S.
NEW YORK, Dec. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- A U.S.-based cell of the Al Qaeda terror network nearly launched an attack on a major target in Washington, D.C. after September 11, Newsweek has learned. Intelligence sources say a Qaeda "sleeper cell" in the U.S. was poised to launch the attack -- perhaps against the Capitol Building. The sources believe that the FBI, in its sweep against visa violators and other illegals of Mideast backgrounds, picked up ...

This is total speculation and propaganda.
Not only tripe but, if any of this bears truth, they condemn themselves to being incompetent. If intelligence was doing their job, these roundups should have occurred by 9/10. At some point in time, we've got to make those that were asleep at the wheel take responsibility for their inaction. Blackbird.

"...bin Laden funneled as much as $100 million per year to the Taliban---- more than twice Afghanistan's official annual budget."
At $50 million per year, the USA could learn from its enemy, what is necessary and what isn't when it comes to operating a government. There doesn't seem to be a lot of fat and pork in their budget.

Good point !!! Unfortunately, the Democrats have their eyes on those abandoned Afghan terrorist training camps to prep for the next election. They won't stop until they're taxing 100% of everything.

Thanks.
If this supposition on Newsweek's part is true then one may presume that the attack will eventually come.

Ashcroft has been thru the wringer - I remember those threads from last year as well. He has been persecuted by the media and the Dims almost unmercifully. And if the media and dims hate him so much, Bush obviously made a great choice for AG!

We need a catchy phrase or slogan for the tour.
"Lock up your daughters, sheep, and wives cause here comes the posse!"
"SleazeFest 2002, coming to a courtroom near you!"

Obviously you HAVE to use ambiguous words when talking about an attack that NEVER happened. I suppose next time we should wait for the attack TO happen then we can use words like, hundreds were killed, the Capitol was destroyed...I don't want you running my security.
To: Demidog
bin Laden does not and has never said he was responsible for the attacks. I suggest you read the transcripts of his statement. Who are you spinning for? Prior to the soon to be released video where OBL fully implicates himself in 9/11 he made a number of statements where he alluded to his involvement in the 9/11 attacks. Why would you attempt to defend this psycho that has killed many thousands of innocent people here and abroad if you are not some radical muslim yourself?

It's that whole constitution thing. There are no constitutional infractions here. The constitution grants the federal government wide powers in defending against foreign and domestic enemies. Especially when it concerns non-citizens bent on destroying this country.

There is no power given to the federal government to violate any of the rights listed in our bill of rights ever. If you're going to claim that such power is given you must provide a cite.

He said he was glad they occurred. He said nothing about his own involvement and I defy you to provide the quote which you claim exists.

You don't think it's possible that any of these people being held have been prevented from attacks they had planned? Sabertooth, I think demidog prefers the spectacle of Muslim terrorists running around this country killing thousands of people, blowing buildings up, creating panic and mayhem among the masses and the economy as long as his Muslim brothers are not hassled. This guy is a real trip. Must be a Muslim
hopefully one that will soon be deported.

No he didn't. He said he was glad they occurred. He said nothing about his own involvement and I defy you to provide the quote which you claim exists. I said he alluded to his involvement. Many of those that listened to that tape concluded that he indirectly implicated himself. This is to say nothing of his proven direct involvement in at least 3 terrorist incidents against the U.S. (the USS Cole and 2 embassey bombings). We got a mountain of evidence against him proving his direct involvement in numerous terrorist attacks over the years. Any particular reason why you choose to defend this madman?

He said more that that from what I understand in one of his extended remarks about 9/11--all but taking credit for the attack. But if you don't believe that tape maybe you will believe the tape that will be released soon where OBL implicates himself all over the place. BTW, are you glad the attacks occurred?
