From KOMO4 Web Site right now:
SEATTLE - A plane at Sea-Tac Airport has been sealed off after U.S. Customs officials in New York received an anonymous tip that the inbound 747 from Taipei, Taiwan had someone on board carrying smallpox.
It has not been determined if it is a valid threat yet, but officials are not taking any chances.
Eva Air Flight 32, bound for Newark, N.J. but in Seattle on a scheduled stop-over, has been quarantined as a precaution. No one is being allowed on or off the plane.
The threat was not specific if the person was infected, or carrying a vial of smallpox.
Again, there has not been any confirmation of smallpox on board. Officials are responding to an anonymous tip.

How would they be able to determine whether or not somebody on the plane had smallpox? There are no visible symptoms in the early stages.
King5.com's report is almost identical, but here it is:
Plane detained at Sea-Tac Airport
12/07/2001
KING5.com
SEATTLE - Passengers on board a 747 flight from Taipei, Taiwan are being held on the plane at Sea-Tac International Airport because of a threat of an unknown contaminant.
Officials say an anonymous tip about the threat was given to U.S. Customs officials in New York. The plane, EVA Flight 32 to Newark, New Jersey, with a scheduled stop in Seattle, has been quarantined as a precaution, and none of the planes 157 passengers or 14 crew members are being allowed off.
Other operations at the airport have not been affected. Health officials and an interpreter are on the scene. Stay tuned to KING5 News and KING5.com for updates on this story.

Oh man. I'm sure the people on that plane are haveing fun right now.
Why don't they at least let them into a contained field rather then an enclosed plane?

"bound for Newark, New Jersey."
Hmmm, hotbed of anthrax activity.
To: Patriot
The threat of small pox is real, but there's a 99.9% chance that this is just a hoax. Any one of us could have called in the same threat and stopped a flight from taking off.
To: Patriot
Almost willing to bet this is not going to turn out to be smallpox
To: Patriot; Grampa Dave
Portland Mayor, Vera Katz, has just announced that Doctors from Portland
will NOT be allowed to examine Non-citizens for smallpox infection.
Non-citizens cannot be examined for mere suspicion of infection. < /sarcasm>

I think it's pretty sad and cowardly of us to overreact this way. We can't be sending up fighters or grounding airplanes every time someone phones in a anonymous threat or runs to the rest room.
Pretty soon the terrorists won't have to use jets and bombs. They'll just have to make prank phone calls to disrupt our society.

I think the terrorists would just slip smallpox across our southern border. Hardly anything gets stopped there.
To: Patriot
This has to be bogus. Its highly unlikely they could confirm smallpox without detailed testing. Either a hoax or they got good hard evidence. I suspect its the former.

Guess the Vast Right Wing had a round trip ticket and was returning from overseas with their latest.....

In the contagious stage of small pox the infected individual is feeling terrible with extremely high fever and the pox marks could be evident. Although a vaccinated individual could spread it via aerosol. Not trying to spread fear just knowledge
