A column in the following day's Cornell Daily Sun revealed that 21 of 22 registered voters among Government department professors are Democrats!

No surprise there. Yet I'll bet Cornell, like most of our "elite" universities, prides itself on the "diversity" of its teaching faculty. Hogwash!

You can have 22 professors, each of a different nationality and with a different skin color, but if they all think exactly alike--where is the diversity?

What's even more surprising than the relatively polite behavior of the Cornell crowd was that an editorial the next day in the infamously liberal Cornell Daily Sun acknowledged the lack of diversity of THOUGHT on the faculty!! This is the same Sun that refused to publish Horowitz' ad on reparations because it was "racist", etc.

I don't believe faculties will become more diverse until parents of college applicants start looking beyond the relative prestigiousness of various colleges and start looking at the actual quality of the education and balance of views offered.

I for one routinely DISCOURAGE young people and their parents from applying to Cornell, my alma mater, and similar places, in favor of colleges with a more balanced faculty. If this became a trend, colleges would have to adapt, just like Cornell has been forced to build more attractive dorms to compete.
