A COMMON MISCONCEPTION about Arab terrorism against Israel is that it is committed in an effort to derail the ''peace process.'' President Bush echoed that fiction on Sunday when he commented on a wave of ghastly attacks that had just killed 26 Israeli civilians and maimed scores of others.

Yasser Arafat comes from a long and fine tradition of hating Jews. His uncle was the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, who spent WWII in Nazi Germany with a British price on his head organizing an SS unit made up of Muslims for the German Army.
On the other hand, his Majesty's Palestinian Brigade was made up of Palestinian Jews exclusively. No Arabs fought on the side of the Allies during WWII that I'm aware of.
