An impeccable, hall of fame Washington Insider close to the State Department has said that they are furious that an attack on Iraq was 'put off the table.'
The source said that there was not enough unimpeachable evidence to make the war stick with the coalition and that the next target may be Indonesia.
Wolfowitz walked out of the decision meeting absolutely furious, which is interesting becuase it is usually the State Department who have been the 'doves' on this issue recently, but in the last few weeks Colin Powell has drastically changed his position to go after Iraq policy wise in the meetings.

Thank you for the verification. I was pretty sure I had that right in my post. This is total bunk.

agree totally. Preferably with "coalition", but IMHO will transpire with or without coalition (friendly Islamic) support. Saddam won't even have time to deliberate whether or not to accept the UN inspectors...I suspect we rather hope he will not, as he would deceive in all respects regardless of what he agrees to on paper. My impression is that the plans are made to put an end to his regime....rapidly.

"Trixie" is a handle used by Lucianne Goldberg, and she hasn't been close to power in Washington, D.C. since her days in the Lyndon B. Johnson WH of shame.

Sources sitting close to congressional heat sources have informed me that furious Democrats stormed out of a caucus meeting when told that they would cave to the Republicans and not consider drilling in ANWR. Democrats also insisted that they would never give in to Republican pressure for more spending on welfare programs and mandatory unionization of zookeepers, unless coupled with a much larger tax decrease in the highest income bracket.

Believe me, we've got 63,000 reasons to go after Indonesia first.

There will be massive support for military action re: Indonesia after the Muslims there have completed the predicted massacre of tens of thousands of Indonesian Christians.
Talk about bad timing on the part of the "peaceful" religionistas over there -- doom on them....

If they fired Powell, we would see an elite media feeding frenzy like never before. There would be poll after poll showing a sudden disapproval of Bush. We just need to keep Powell in check. Though I wouldn't mind seeing Schwarzkopf as Secretary of State :) (Yeah right -- that'll happen)

Good, shows just what a team player this prima donna isn't. Let's hope he does something good for AMERICA and resigns in a snit....or hope that maybe GW will do the smart thing and demand his resignation.
He seems to have been the one man band for action against Iraq since September 12th, even before any evidence of Iraqi involvement. He overstepped his bounds on more than one occasion to the point where Chenney had to smack him down for recklessly shooting from the lip.

Time to Fire Powell and Paul O'Neil , the 2 morons !!! You haven't heard yet? Read on...
December 4, 2001 -- The White House, increasingly dismayed by the poor performance of Treasury Secretary Paul O'Neill, is quietly chatting about ways to dump and replace him, The Post has learned...O'Neill could be put out to pasture before the end of the year. Sources say the media-savvy White House might have O'Neill announce his retirement on a holiday weekend when it would get less publicity.

Nope, Im not with Wolfowitz at all, I simply don't trust that man.
The "best hawks" never undercut the chain of comand at the level, and in the freelancing/whispering to the press's ear style, that Wolfowitz does.
I don't trust people like that, period....they usually have their own agenda.
If that makes me a "wussy", so be it. I've called a lot worse, and it's always by people who just can't express themselves well, or whose arguement is so weak, that name calling becomes the only resort.
Merry Christmas to you and your family.

As I read the article, it says that Powell had changed his position (i.e., originally opposing the Iraq strike) to now favoring it. What article are you reading? Or, do you have other evidence that Powell is the one now opposing the Iraq strike?

Let me add to myself that I saw Powell on TV just last WEEK specifically identifying Iraq, and I thought, "Oh, boy, here it comes: if Powell is laying out the plan for Iraq, Saddam is a dead man." So for Powell to have "changed" it would have been IN FAVOR of an attack. This doesn't seem to hold water.
But hey, I'm fine with taking out the Indonesian creeps too. They are slaughtering Christians there, and we could probably, in the short run, save more lives there.

Time to Fire Powell Powell is unfireable. He is their "trophy black".
Don't worry about him, though. He will resign in 2003 in time to join Buh-Bette! as her VP running mate in the 2004 elections.
