Its a scooter. It has wheels. It doesn't hover. Its called a "Segway." Neat. Yawn. Thanks to www.ginger_chat.com and Drudge for the heads up.

I will point out what a lot of you seem to be missing- WHERE IS THE POWER SUPPLY for this thing? It must be INCREDIBLY SMALL and INCREDIBLY POWERFUL...

For that reason alone, I believe this is huge...

I want one of those power supplies to try to replage the gas engine on an ultralight aircraft, for instance...

Why didn't I study law? The insurance rates for these things are going to be rediculous. Regardless if they are banned from sidewalks or not people are going to get run into with these things. Looks like the base is just about right for snapping your ankle in two. I would imagine stopping on a dime is out of the question.

Lets see. Banned from sidewalks because it goes three times the speed of a walking person. Banned from streets because it goes three times slower than a car. Used in a shopping mall? Get real, like I want some moron flying by me at 15 mph with parcels in their hands. The only place you could use one is on a bike path, which surely will piss off the bikers.

This dog don't hunt.

So this is power by just leaning forward the machines electronic sensing and reacting to subtle shifts in balance.

Well a little problem, sometime when the electronic fail (and they will) someone is going to do a serious "face-plant in to the pavement

Out come the lawyers and that will be the end of "IT" ... have you seen any three wheel ATV lately?

When does practicality ever come into the equation?!

When it is 20 degrees outside and the windchill is well below zero I'm supposed to be happy riding a scooter? Will they have the heavy duty scooter to pull my boat, or better yet pull it out of the launch ramp? When I crash into something, even at the maximum 17mph, I'm supposed to survive? Driving 20 minutes in from the suburbs at 60 or more mph vs. 17mph means I leave 3 times earlier each morning?

I think I keep my Dodge Ram for now

I can guarantee Barbara Streisand along with the balance of the lefiies will soon issue an edict that we should all use these to save the planet, conserve energy, blah, blah, blah all the while driving Humvees.

This is a "niche" product ie. has no capacity to carry groceries, can't use in inclement weather, etc. so I'm not even quite sure what niche this guy is aiming at (Hahahahahaha). If I wanted to get something small I'd get a motor-scooter or, better yet, a bicycle for the exercise. Or...............

I don't know if anyone here has been to Europe lately........but they have these 2-seater cars (3 cylinder engine!!!!!) that are extremely utilitarian for in-city driving, parking, gas mileage, etc. They're maufactured by Daimler-Chrysler.......kinda cool, you see them all over the cities "over there". Check this out if you WANT "small":

Hey, at least you can get a couple of bags of groceries in them!

Frankly, I don't get what all the fuss is about. It can't get anyone to work faster (12 mph speed max). I could walk the 17 miles worth of battery time, and be a whole lot healthier for it. Where in the world would one go on It except to the mailbox? Grocery shopping? I think not. Isn't that what Excursions and other SUV'S were made for? Besides, just how safe can a body be on it? Someone, please tell me what is to be gained from this thing? Sorry, from this "It"...

Its called a "Segway." Neat. Yawn.

Yeah, just what we need...a wheelchair for the non-disabled. What'll they think of next? A hearing aid for the non-deaf?

A "better mousetrap" it ain't...

I suppose those of us not lazy enough to use one of these will be expected to move out of the way for those who are.
