Then I will respond the same way that the Taiwanese react to current war in Middle East.

Who cares?

Taiwan from day one supported the US in any and every way and officially offered any service or help, including military, it could.

You need to go back and study the history, well, CCP burned all Chinese history so it educated a bunch of ignorant people like you.

10 years ago there were only very few colleges in China had "si ku chuan su". Taiwan had to donate hundreds of copies to China. Tell me about study history.

KMT killed millions of CCP, you got be kidding me man, I did not even know there were so many CCP members to be killed. Unfortunetly my late uncle was a senior member of CCP and he was a member since late 1930. Our family forbidded him going back to SiChuang to see my grandparents' grave. He died never be able to went back home. How sad!

See your twisted mentality, poor soul. In Taiwan KMT will do anything to benefit the people, even though it was defeated in election but the result is PEOPLE WON. Do you get it, people above the party. Not like in China, CCP is the king and people are just things. CCP is above eveything and every law. Poor communist Chinese.

You are proud that KMT was defeated by CCP. I feel very sorry for you. You just ignored tens of millions of innocent lives were murdered. (they were NOT KMT members) You are realy low aren't you. We were educated VERY differently.

You don't even know what a "Tu Fai" is, ask your grandparents and they can expalin to you. Nothing wrong of "Gang of Chiang", no negative notation.

The war of 823, remember that? Militarily, CCP was not capable to do it, period. And, yes, at that time there was no US's 7th fleet. "Don't try to paint gold on your own face.", you probably don't understand it.

If you do not want to open your eyes then you'll never be able to advance to the right direction. My friend, open your eyes.

Thanks for bringing my attention to this. Good article and definately food for thought. I doubt that China will try to take Taiwan in the near future, but, just as the author was pointing out it would be foolish for us to not prepare for such a scenario.
The lust for power can be a good 'incentive' to become a bit foolish. If the CCP is determined to stay in power and pressures (both domestic and foreign) make them feel they may be loosing their grip, bad things can occur. See the article below about some of the factors that may bring such pressure on the CCP in the next 10-20 years:
China's Hunger: The Consequences of a Rising Demand for Food and Energy
No matter what the circumstances and if you think such an invasion won't happen, it would be stupid to wear blinders and not have some plan in place in case the improbable happend. The author has already noted several occations of the improbable happening and the consequences it had on the world...and 'history has a way of repeating itself.'

Pardon my ambiguity—where the bin Laden construction firm buys their equipment?

Red China is a major manufacturer.

* Against the Soviets OBL,Inc. anted up heavy construction equipment. The PRC had five or six hundred advisors there, if I recall aright. Just how far back go the ties between the PRC and OBL,Inc. and through what channels?

To tell the truth, I half expected them to do it during Clinton's last years in office, maybe during that period when he pulled every aircraft carrier out of the Pacific for the attack on Yugoslavia, and was down to a few last cruise missiles.

Now that Bush is in office, it's a good deal less likely.

I expect HRC's presidential bid will get a lot of financial help from PRC related sources. With Hillary in office, I believe the PRC could take Taiwan without any interference from the USA.

America's foreign policy is subject to the current whim of the sheeple electorate. Hillary's Chinese money is probably rolling in already.

>>You need to go back and study the history, well, CCP burned all Chinese history so it educated a bunch of ignorant people like you.

I don't like this kind of personal attack.

>>10 years ago there were only very few colleges in China had "si ku chuan su". Taiwan had to donate hundreds of copies to China. Tell me about study history.

The KMT stole tons of artifacts from the Mainland, including "si ku chuan su". What Taiwan donated is what the KMT should return to the Mainland.

>>KMT killed millions of CCP, you got be kidding me man, I did not even know there were so many CCP members to be killed.

Just because you didn't know doesn't mean it's not the fact.

>>Unfortunetly my late uncle was a senior member of CCP and he was a member since late 1930. Our family forbidded him going back to SiChuang to see my grandparents' grave. He died never be able to went back home. How sad!

I don't believe your story because it was not consistant with the realiy in China.

>>In Taiwan KMT will do anything to benefit the people,

The KMT did everything to keep power, not for the people.

>>You are proud that KMT was defeated by CCP.

I don't have to be proud of that. The KMT was defeated by illeterate peasant soldiers.

>>You just ignored tens of millions of innocent lives were murdered. (they were NOT KMT members)

It happened after the KMT was defeated.

>>Nothing wrong of "Gang of Chiang", no negative notation.

I dont think "Gang" is a good word in Chinese.

>>The war of 823, remember that? Militarily, CCP was not capable to do it, period.

I'm not going to argue, though I don't agree with you.

>> at that time there was no US's 7th fleet.

The 7th Fleet escorted the KMT convoy to Kimmen, so there WAS US intervention.

This shows your ignorance. You don't even know what 'si ku chuan su' is.

Stole? KMT goverment was elected by the people and CCP? 'Tu Fai'. Why do you believe China belongs to CCP? It does not, it belongs to the people.

I'm thankful that Taiwan keeps a lot of those culture treasures, otherwise they'll be destroyed by CCP during the cultural revolution.

>>KMT killed millions of CCP, you got be kidding me man, I did not even know there were so many CCP members to be killed.

It is the truth and whether you believe or not. What is the reality in China? I'm glad some of my uncles and aunts kept some value there. Remember Chinese value? or you don't even know what it is. You probably don't because the way you are educated. My mother was in Beijing 6/2/1989 to try to bring my late uncle back to home, but 6/4 prevented that from happening.

>>In Taiwan KMT will do anything to benefit the people,
The KMT did everything to keep power, not for the people.

Shows your ignorance again. If KMT acts 10% like CCP then people in Taiwan would never be able to VOTE KMT out. GET IT?

>>You just ignored tens of millions of innocent lives were murdered. (they were NOT KMT members)
It happened after the KMT was defeated.

That's exactly what I meant. CCP killed its own people and you are proud of it. SAD!

>>Nothing wrong of "Gang of Chiang", no negative notation.
I dont think "Gang" is a good word in Chinese.

In Chinese it is "Bong", no negative meaning at all. I wonder your ability in understand Chinese.

Soccer8's US defense expert warns of airborne threat from China:
"In terms of airborne forces, Fisher quoted reports suggesting that China's 15th Airborne Army might be substantially expanded to a force that exceeds 50,000 men...."

In terms of the politico-military scenario sketched in #3, in which the ROC and prospective allies, are in one way or another subverted into not fighting, or not fighting vigorously, including a reply with devastating air, the planned attack would be mainly airborne in my opinion.

They may also be planning a quick airborne assault on a small island now part of the ROC, thinking neither the ROC or the USA would respond vigorously. This would be mainly political in thrust, to fit the long-term goal of subverting the will of the ROC to resist a later, larger move.

The CCP and PLA, of course, calculate they still have a lot of time to work with.

Best regards. S&W R.I.P.

CSIA Commentary 57:
"Reports of the trafficking of Red Mercury (claimed to have the composition Hg2Sb207) have been circulating for many years. Red Mercury was touted as a mediator in nuclear weapons design, particularly as an essential ingredient in pure-fusion weapons, a view expressed most recently in International Defence Review (6/94) by Dr. F. Barnaby, a former Director of the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute. What is known about Red Mercury is that it was the Russian code name for the production of Li6D — a legitimate component of thermonuclear weapons, but not some mystical or magical ingredient for other purposes. In recent years Red Mercury has been widely discredited, and the "market" for it appears to be diminishing. "

Ah yes, then there's the putative confusion between the characters for "well" and "cinnabar", and what Fr. Wieger noted as the curious "daltonism" of ching, hehe.

Best regards. S&W R.I.P.

As far as airborne assaults go, not that I am a military man or anything, however I think I recall that Taiwan is now stationing jet fighters away from Taiwan itself, at an old US airbase...

You can bet on it that China will and already has started to try and beef up its air force way more...

Ah yes, Lake's take, aching and nostalgic, on "The China Hands: Profiles in Courage and Lessons for the Future", hoho.

Lonesome hand
too old for double-dealing
fiddles silently with deck.
Silk sleeve hid volumes,
now smooth and void.
The fingers idly diddle
under open wistful palm.
It is the end of the line
when wrist weakens
and strength and purpose
desert the arms....

Thanks for the heads up, super175.

Regards to all. S&W R.I.P.
