Throw a major wrench in the whole thing and suggest they use a black santa to celebrate diversity.

Local media monitoring "heads up" as of last night:

News Anchor Jim Vance on NBC Ch. 4 said that the town council is "reconsidering", etc. However, on Fox Ch. 5 the spin from Kensington was quoted as saying that "..Santa will be welcomed no matter where he comes from..." after mentioning that a motorcycle club was coming down from Baltimore dressed up as Santas this Sunday. Regardless, NONE of the reports said that the town council has reversed it's original position.

ABC Ch. 7 and CBS Ch. 9 both had similar sounding coverage on this too. One of them showed Kensington's lame press release regarding "expectations that Santa will be there" anyway. Methinks that media savvy professionals are now handling this for the Town of Kensington officials behind-the-scenes since our posts here on Free Republic and that fact that other news media outlets picked up on this worldwide. ;-)

Some Santa needs to show up at the Fire Department. They advised they would be more than glad to provide a ride.

The professional media consultants are now "handling" this for the Town of Kensington. That's why you will probably not see any of the current Town Council Members on-the-air anytime soon again. Their new underlying strategy's spin was revealed in yesterday's late night news broadcasts. Every single network affiliate generously quoted Kensington's lame press release.

The Town Kouncil Lords of Kensington fear the FReepers now. :-)

Here is a NEW press release (11/30/01), from the town's website, www.tok.org:

PRESS RELEASE

IMMEDIATE RELEASE
November 30, 2001

Kensington, MD is stocking up on more cookies and milk.

In anticipation of probably breaking the record for the most number of Santas at a tree lighting ceremony, the Town is stocking up on more of the traditional treats - cookies and milk. It is expected there will be many Santas as the community lights the tree and salutes our first responders and those who help guard this nation's freedoms.

However many Santas choose to join us on Sunday, the event planners are hoping that they will all join Town citizens in bringing a special gift for the kids who live at Crossway Community, a local Kensington family shelter.

I can't make it the 3,000 miles to attend, but I'll be there in spirit - we have our own Grinch here (in Washington State) to deal with... King County Executive Ron Simms does something stupid - again

I wonder if King County and Montgomery County are "Sister" counties in some leftist exchange program...

I hope every resident of this God forsaken town shows up dressed as Santa, young and old alike.

The more these idiots open their mouths the more they expose themselves for the fools they are.

Wish I could be there as Mrs. Claus but it's a bit too far for me, have fun FReepers.

The fact that everyone says have a "Happy Holiday" instead of "Merry Christmas" shows that they are brain washed and indoctrinated by the P.C. police. 94% of Americans celebrate CHRISTMAS--so why can't the other 6.% who don't show some tolerance to the other 94%?? This 6% should say Merry Chrismas and show some respect and tolerance to the other 94%..Why can't these 2 families who are so offended by Santa show some tolerance to the children and families of this town. Why do people keep rolling over for these intolerant fanatics who want to ruin it for everyone else. I say Merry Christmas and bring on the Kensington Santa. Hey, and if anyone is offended--get over it.

FNC gave a pretty straight report of the proposed freep at Kensington: Jim Engle said that "some renegades" were going to crash the party as Santa Claus and then implied that, under this dire threat, the council had folded its cards - and he was beaming from ear to ear when he said it.

We cheered heartily here at home and D28Man said, "All we had to do was point Doctor Raoul, fully loaded, at 'em and they folded!"

Santa Claus Brings Good Tidings of Comfort and Joy!

Now why would any reasonable person want to take Jolly Old St. Nick away from Children and Good Christmas Cheer?

Will be with you all in highest spirits and my thoughts.

If there is a shortage of Santa costumes, perhaps a full cast of the Nativity Scene could converge on the scene.

Maybe a large chorus of carolers singing religious CHRISTMAS carols would be equally offensive to the athiest, baby-killing town council members.
