The United States yesterday awarded a $428 million contract to a British firm for 155 million doses of smallpox vaccine.
The contract with Acambis Inc. will bring the nation's smallpox stockpile to 286 million doses by the end of next year - enough to protect "every man, woman and child in the U.S.," Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy Thompson said.
