I was exactly the same way. But then my threads started disappearing, my FReeper friends started disappearing, and finally I disappeared (several times). I was compelled by all this to ask, "What the heck is really going on here? Why is this happening?" It's a natural evolution, really.

With all due respect, I really don't understand what you mean. You say that you're just here to read. Do you mean that anything not pertaining to news or political issues is irrelevant, or that people cannot persuade you to stop wishing this site well, both, neither, or what?
