Carville coming to see about helping PR campaign

By Janine Zacharia November, 29 2001

WASHINGTON (November 29) - James Carville, the Democratic strategist who helped Ehud Barak defeat Binyamin Netanyahu in the 1999 prime ministerial race, left for Israel yesterday, where he will meet with people who want him to help improve the country's image in the US, a source close to him said yesterday.

Carville is expected to stay only through the weekend. No contracts have been signed yet.

"He is talking to more people who are interested in helping Israel with its image here. Nothing has started yet," the source said.

Carville has recently been approached by Israelis and Americans to help launch a new public relations initiative. Public opinion polls conducted in the US since September 11 have shown American support for Israel remains strong.

But since the terrorist attacks, the perception that Osama bin Laden is somehow motivated by America's support for Israel has mounted, and many Jewish Americans have expressed concern about growing anti-Israel sentiment.

Carville came to prominence in the early 1990s when he ran Bill Clinton's campaign for the presidency. He was immortalized in a popular documentary film, The Boiler Room. Since, he has written books and appeared in commercials. He is married to Republican political strategist and media personality Mary Matalin.

[Carville] will meet with people who want him to help improve the country's image in the US, a source close to him said yesterday.

This guy is the kiss of death when it comes to image. The Israelis ought to send him to "help" Arafat.

I don't think even the democRATS are ready to see that raving maniac. He is the prime example of the what kind of nutbags "The Coward" X42 chose to surround himself with.

Note to Carville.....Keep your psychotherapy appointments

Actually this is a very sophisticated, subtle battle against one of the "anti-Semitic stereotypes" . . . that part of the stereotypes that suggest that Israel is run by super intelligent, invincible, strategically superior, world dominating . . . fill-in-the-blanks . . .

I'm playing dumb here - not sure if you're being sarcastic. Doesn't this play right into that stereotype that Israel is a puppet of the US (and vice versa, depending on the flavor of the day) by sending on of our 'operatives' over there? Is that the stereotype you reference?

Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha . . . cough . . . damn! The Toon got elected because he's a immoral narcissist who lied, frightened, and charmed his way in, had the mainstream media cheerleading for him, and Bush, a principled and civilized man, chose to not challenge the buffoon. Also, the selection of The Toon says an awful lot about the character (more accurately--the lack thereof) of the American electorate. Are people lining up to hire Carville to be their point person any more? I don't see him making appearances--looks like a downfall to me. Perhaps there is justice?

Why would they want HIM to help??

I dunno, I think it's a pretty astute idea. Carville will have no trouble getting himself in front of a TV camera. Most U.S. media outlets would rather show an hour with a Clinton administration figure than do almost anything else. Remember the time they cut away from a live speech by the President to cover some ribbon-cutting ceremony that Hillary was at?

Our media people sold their souls to the Clintons, and because of it we are going to have a lifetime of Clinton sycophants shoved in our faces by television's Democrats. There's no getting rid of them.

I don't fault the Israelis for trying to buy their share of it.
