"Absolutely not. The last thing Liberals want is liberty. That's one thing they've got in common with the Taliban"Yep.

Of Hillary Clinton, another supposed advocate, she simply says: "She cannot defend her own rights against her husband. How can she defend the rights of my country?" Now that is worth repeating! Man has she got hillary down pat

I like this lady but this is a false choice. It is not as if what she suggests, schools, etc., cannot be accomplished at the same time as the liberation of the women does. It is not an either/or kiind of thing. And with schools, etc, all it would take is a change of heart for the men in Afghanistan to reinstitute the burka and their hateful ways. The elevation of the women to equal status must occur or all else is flimsy and easily reversible. You take off those burkas, let those women speak out and fore you know it there is no way things will go back. Plus they can tongue lash their husbands, bash men at coffee, make tasteless lists of how men are like pigs,,,just like us girls here. We will get together and telll horror stories to each other.

I'm with you. But liberty's worth it.
Our enemies should know that, much as we don't want to, we will storm the beaches of Normandy and walk into machine gun fire if we must.
Our fathers did it. And we will do it.
America's enemies be warned!

Ah, sweet little old Hillary. What would we do without her?

Yes, you've nailed it. Societal customs are one thing. Forced societal customs at the point of a gun is another.

. The elevation of the women to equal status must occur or all else is flimsy and easily reversible. That's a noble and a correct thought (I mean it,) but I think we must get away from the notion that we in the West know what must occur in the undeveloped countries. Read Cicero's post #13. Even if this does occur, it is unlikely to have the same practical meaning as the elevation of women to equal status in the West. We have to aloo0w for that and this is what I think the General has in mind.
Have women been elevated to equal status in Japan or in other East Asian countries? The culture of Islam may be particularly problematic in this area. But hey, how did this woman become a general in the first place? Something, ahem, progressive for lack of a better word is or was there in Afghanistan and the ouster of the Talis ought to revive it, no? Am I making any sense today! (I know I was yesterday and three days before that!)

I know this is just a little blurb, and I know it is not the stuff of major stories, but after reading this article, and feeling a well spring of respect for the female general, this quote, towards the end of the article, simply made my day, no make that WEEK. With my heart, I wish there were a way to get it to Hillary. It is, well, PERFECT! As follows, said by Dr. Siddiq:
Of Hillary Clinton, another supposed advocate, she simply says: "She cannot defend her own rights against her husband. How can she defend the rights of my country?"
I mean, major shot across the bow. Astounding. I guess it takes an Afgan woman to see the forest thru the trees.
Thanks for the ping, Gavin! And scruffdog, you are so right, this quote should go national, it would knock the socks of our fellow citizens!!!

I understand that the fashion _this_ year is for a deep _sky_ blue and showing the legs almost to the knees. (As well as "shoes that make a clicking sound" including high heels.) It's driving the Talibangers nuts.
