Smokers and non smokers were there, no one cared if you smoked or not. It was great. I really long for the old days.

Wrong! Lots of people hated the smoke and hated having to go home in smelly clothes and immediately hit the shower to wash out the smell from the hair. The more smokers act discourteously, the more militant anti-smokers get. I didn't see any smokers post concern over smoking in line; only more antagonism. My favorite "in-line" tactics are to brush the cigarette out and to start continuous coughing if the nearby smoker is not courteous. I "love-it" when the smoker in front holds his cigarette behind him and in my face so he and his friends don't have to smell it! A brush of the cigarette puts it out and coughing in his face gets the point across.

And you jerks who smoke in public are right up there with the homeboys who blast crappy rap music into the eardrums of everyone in the neighborhood. One is ear pollution, the other air pollution. Both are put out by jerks.

Like I said, I won't be cryin' you a river when smoking is banned everywhere. In fact, I'm looking forward to it. (I gotta go now, I think I'll write my Congressman and suggest raising the cigarette tax another 1000% or so.)

My point was that most people don't smoke, therefore, unless you know for certain that the people around don't mind, it would be better to err on the side of consideration and don't smoke around them.

My point about sadism was that if you smoke only because you enjoy it, that's one thing, but if you do it to purposefully annoy someone, then that's cruel.

First off, thanks for the info. That must have taken you some time to type/research. I appreciate the effort. I never said you were making it up, I simply wanted to know the source. I have accused smokers of being rude and inconsiderate as pertains to their smoking, but I am not questioning your honesty.

Most of what you said is news to me. Almost all of the documentation I have found, even on the Philip Morris website, is anti-smoking.

Here are two examples:
Philip Morris' Actions to Reduce Second-Hand Smoke
Health Issues For Smokers

As for this:
...you definitely would say I was wrong.
I am a total stranger. I hate smoking more than I can express, but you have no idea what I would or wouldn't say. I'm open to logic and reason. I have never heard your claims before and I will look into them. The World Health Organization, now there's a misnomer. There's enough valid claims against them for a good long thread.

"Very good point. Especially when you consider that the government is one of the biggest perpetrators of the discrimination."

Does anyone else notice the "wolf in sheep's clothing" tactics of some of the anti-smokers who post here? It seems that an almost any smoking or SHS related thread, someone pops up and starts with the "reasonable man" approach, however their verbiage has underlying objectives. They put forth an image of open mindedness, laced with veiled insults. When someone calls them on this, they immediately retreat to the victim mind set, whining about how their perfect world is tarnished by the presence of tobacco smoke anywhere, indoors, outdoors, or any place they "might" want to be. If they are presented with facts, they ignore them. If they are engaged on discussion level, and you don't agree 110% with their position, you are told that you are a smelly old hack, and they hope you die. No need to go into further detail, we have all seen how obstinate and vicious these people can become.

I became fascinated over time as to what makes these people tick. It was obvious by their posts that they did not fit the typical conservative or libertarian mind set, and it was also very obvious that there was something much deeper at work here then just the annoyance of tobacco smoke. After watching this thread, and intentionally pushing a few buttons to see what would happen, it came to me that the anti-tobacco forces biggest asset is those who have an "insecure" mentality. Think about it, anyone who is so concerned about the possibility that they may get a whiff of cigarette smoke, is the same type of person who feels constantly threatened by someone else invading their space. Be it the neighbors dog or cat, the co-worker who picked something up off of their desk without permission, or the guy on the highway who is trying to merge in front of them, these people live their lives dreading that someone is infringing upon them some how. A clear sign of insecurity.

Mixed with the insecurity to a certain extent, are signs of paranoia. This can be the only reason for the refusal to listen to reason, and in the case of conservatives, the concept of doing away with rights and freedoms, based on unsubstantiated hysteria. The desire to follow what the anti-smoking lobby puts out without question, is more of a liberal's trait, than someone who believes they are a conservative.

On the other hand, most of the smokers I know, and what is reflected by smokers on these threads, lead me to believe that many smokers are willing to compromise a great deal, even when faced with absurd. I can't think of any smoker, who when approached on reasonable basis, under conditions that are logical, would not accommodate a request to either put their cigarette out, or move to another location. Of course there are inconsiderate smokers, just as there are inconsiderate drivers, inconsiderate pedestrians, inconsiderate neighbors, and so on. A great deal of the problem lies with those anti-smokers who appoint themselves as a police force, and go after those who are using a "legal" product in a "legal" manner. In order to deal with their insecurities, the nicotine police find reassurance and self fulfillment by attacking smokers. Most know that smokers are some what despised in society, and the sense of power they receive from castigating an oppressed minority group, is backed with the assurance that they are supported in their actions by their co-insecure peers.

Make sure that you get a Notary Public to certify your mark after your scribe scribbles your inane gibberish onto parchment.

PS: Something that you do and like will be next. You will be crying like a baby when it is YOUR turn. You will get NO sympathy from anyone.

It has been my experience that the anti smoking NAZIs (which you sound like) are usually ruder than we smokers as a whole.

Isn't it interesting that you stoop to ad hom attacks with absolutely nothing to back them up, then accuse me of somehow being less intelligent than you. If you'd care to debate this issue with facts and reality, rather than insults, let me know.

BTW, Councilman Mark Rosen is Mayor Pro Tem for Garden Grove, a bedroom community for Los Angeles. The GG City Council website doesn't list e-mail capabilities for the councilmen, but here's the snail mail addy should anyone care to tell Mr. Rosen what an idiot he is for his tyrannical views:

Garden Grove, CA 92842
