If I understand you correctly, it will no longer be possible to 'bring back' old, interesting threads by bumping them, or to add new info to an old discussion.

This represents a fairly major loss of functionality for the forum. Is there any way it might be avoided?

You can always "repost" an old thread, linking to it in the new thread, thus easily continuing the discussion.

You will be able to link to the old article, and replies to old articles will be redirected to a new thread with a link to the old article. The loss of functionality and inconvenience is unfortunate, however necessary to advance the forum software.

These old articles are stored only in HTML files, which are terribly difficult to synchronize among many servers. I'd like to move to a 100% database solution.

I guess they got too big...Will losse a lot of Freepers, but I guess that is the plan, Oh well.
