Just because Bill Clinton has "former president" attached to his name and is no longer supported by a protective staff doesn't mean he has a "kick me" sign taped to his back. Just ask Paul Begala, keeper of the Clinton flame. "The right-wing media still has an obsessive hatred of the president, which in turn motivates us to defend him," the political adviser tells me. It's an expansive network connected by E-mail. There's a "Clintonstaff.com" page associated with Clinton's library and an alumni Yahoo! group. "We Clinton veterans do keep in touch. We love our former boss," says Begala. Consider: Reporting on a recent speech, the Washington Times highlighted Clinton's comments that the United States practiced terrorism in slavery and treatment of the Indians. Begala claims the paper missed the point–Muslims need to talk out their problems with Americans, not kill us–just to gig his man. "It will never stop," he says of conservative criticism, a point he spread on the Clinton grapevine: "Defend our hero against this scurrilous attack."
They were willing to sacrifice the good of the country. They were willing to destroy innocent people.
They're no longer powerful, no longer important, but they continue their wicked ways. They're not about to clear the record, or cleanse their souls, because they are are still sick with pride. They can't acknowledge the real Clinton now...to do so would be to admit the earlier lies, distortions, and deceptions which they helped perpetrate on the American people.
James Carville isn't seen much, but he's putting his name on fundraising letters for the Clinton Library. He's still schilling for Clinton. Probably he and Begala will crawl out from under their rocks full-time, for the 2002 election cycle. But I'm willing to bet they won't have nearly the prestige of before.
Too many lies, to much meanness...President Bush is making their kind obsolete and scorned.
Don't you just know that this was the little snotrag that got beat up in school all the time and constantly did the football team captain's homework for him, hoping for protection?
Look how long -- DECADES! -- it took Robert McNamara to 'fess up that he knew AT THE TIME LBJ's corrupted soul was prosecuting a war he had no intention of fighting to win, that what they were apparently attempting to do in Viet Nam was therefore wrong, as they sent tens of thousands of young Americans to fight and die there. Don't expect Begala and Carville to EVER admit how wrong they were to serve as lickspittles for Clinton. I think McNamara must have had a shred of character left to torture his pitiful soul until he owned up; I don't think either Begala or Carville possess even the most minuscule flyspeck sized shred of character!
