JetBlue Pilot Saw American Airlines Crash

NEW YORK (Reuters) - A JetBlue Airways pilot waiting for take-off at John F. Kennedy International Airport saw the American Airlines flight that crashed on Monday as it fell from the sky accompanied by smoke and a smaller piece of the aircraft, according to an internal report.

The pilot told the JetBlue officials that in its final moments American Airlines Flight 587 appeared to be in a very steep descent, falling nose down at about 80 degrees in a spiral dive.

Before it exploded on impact, the aircraft was accompanied by the smaller piece above and to the right or southwest of the smoke trailing behind the main body, according to the internal JetBlue report provided to Reuters.

The investigation into Monday's crash has become centered on the Airbus A300's tail fin and rudder that separated from the plane before it crashed killing up to 265 people, including casualties on the ground.

Investigators recovered the tail fin of the aircraft from Jamaica Bay.

Preliminary flight data released on Thursday showed the aircraft, operated by AMR Corp.'s American Airlines, was buffeted twice by turbulence in its final moments before beginning a sharp downward turn to the left.

Safety investigators said the turn occurred even as the pilots' controls were set to the right, suggesting the plane was no longer responding to pilot commands.

Investigators are still examining and comparing information from the aircraft's black box and its flight data recorder to piece together a clearer picture of what happened.

It shouldn't be necessary to remind the tinfoil hat conspiracy theorists that this country is at war and that popping off publicly with sinister suspicions that incite suspicion, fear and hatred of our government gives aid and comfort to our enemies.

It shouldn't be necessary to remind you that our messy democratic republic with its open debate has beaten the stuffing out of repressive one-party governments for the last two hundred years.

Talking openly about our problems enables us to solve them. What a concept!

If it was a terrorist attack or sabotage the government will never admit it. In their minds, admitting it will only illicit a huge negative effect on our country, most importantly an economy hanging on by a thread.

Please explain to the readers how witness Meyer would have seen a missile shootdown of the 747 at 13,800 feet only 3-4 seconds before he saw the huge fireball explode in it's falling wreckage 6000+ feet lower in the sky.

Please also provide the readers with the reference source URL for the transcript of witness Wire's comments you now indicate were during a radio show and make your best effort to fit what he says he saw into the sequential timeline of major events.

8:31:11 Intact and climbing 747 approaches 13,800 feet.

8:31:12 Initiating Event at 13,800 feet followed immediately by the commencement of the decapitation process.

8:31:47 explosion of Massive Fireball at 5500-7500 feet. The eyewitnesses contend that the Massive Fireball explosion was immediately preceded by the fiery streak.

8:31:55-8:31:57 splashdown of the Massive Fireball flames.

Patriotic citizens don't give aid and comfort to our enemies during wartime by publicly making wildly reckless accusations that incite suspicion, fear and hatred of our government.

It's destructive to their cause for Conservatives to publicly make wildly reckless accusations at any time.

The only thing that can truly incite suspicion, fear, and hatred of our government is for it to suppress dissent with wildly reckless accusations of treason toward those who disagree with its policies.

Meyer did not and could not have seen a "shootdown" of the 747 at 13,800 feet only 3-4 seconds before he saw the huge fireball explode in falling wreckage 6000+ feet lower in the sky.

Thanks for belatedly admitting that you heard witness Wire on the radio and cannot verify what you earlier said he said.

Well, it looks like we have different opinions on how to interpret Major Meyer's statements.

"Here is my transcript of an interview with Mike Wire on WABC radio 770 AM on 8/23/2001" - So far we've got one witness - me - to Wire's interview, and none contradicting.

You are a purveyor of the impossible. Meyer could not have seen a "missile(s) shootdown" of the 747 at 13,800 feet only 3-4 seconds before he saw the huge fireball explode in it's falling wreckage 6000+ feet lower in the sky. Additionally, he could not have seen the splashdown of the huge fireball's flames 10 seconds later if that huge fireball had exploded at 13,800 feet as he initially mistakenly assumed.

At the outset, the press and James Kallstrom made that same mistaken assumption - that the huge fireball explosion was the jetliner blowing up at 13,800 feet at 8:31:12 whereas the huge fireball explosion took place at approximately 8:31:47 below 7500 feet.

But it wasn't. It was burning jet fuel in the wreckage at about 7500 feet 30+ seconds AFTER the 747 began coming apart at 13,800 feet.
