Muslims to pray in the White House

PRESIDENT BUSH, eager to improve America's reputation in the Muslim world, will welcome 50 ambassadors from Islamic countries for a traditional meal and prayer at the White House on Monday to mark the start of Ramadan.

It is thought to be the first time that Muslims will have knelt and touched the floor with their foreheads in a formal ceremony in the official home of American presidents.

In another unprecedented event, the Muslim chaplain of Georgetown University officiated at the opening prayers of the House of Representatives on Capitol Hill yesterday.

Charlotte Beers, who has been chosen to take charge of an American-led campaign to build support in the Muslim world, said that the White House and State Department wanted to show sensitivity to the importance of Ramadan.

Outstanding point. Here at FR Clinton was slammed for any positive gesture he made towards Yasser Arafat and now we have W. calling for a Palestinian homeland and praying with Muslims. If Clinton had done all of this Conservatives would be calling for his head. I would not be surprised to see the President wearing a turban and Laura wearing a Burka at the next state dinner!

These are the Ambassadors of 50 Islamic Countries being allowed to pray as they see fit during a meeting - they are guests in the White House being allowed to PRACTICE THEIR RELIGION. Nowhere does it say that Bush is practicing with them.

The President has a better handle on things that do most folks posting to this thread. Geez, get a grip, folks.

Some folks still think the best way to gain Christian converts is to beat people over the head until they convert, as opposed to reaching out and embracing people of goodwill and showing Christian love (so that the message of salvation through Christ has a chance of penetrating).

Of course, the U.S. still needs to keep up its operations against Al Qaeda, the Taliban and other terrorists, and to capture Bin Laden dead or alive, and explain to our guests why we are doing it and why they need to side with us in the process.

Bush has done a stellar job so far. He knows what he is doing, and has not compromised his principles in the process. It is a far sight more than anyone posting here (yet) could have accomplished, I would venture to say.

Doomed? Think for a moment. Just freaking think. Bush has some linoleum kissers present their arses in honor of their ludicrous religion and their holy arab history month.
