Investigators Find Signs Birdstrike May Have Caused Crash of Flight 587
Wall Street Journal ^ | November 13, 2001 | SCOTT MCCARTNEY

Investigators examining one of the separated engines from American Airlines Flight 587 found foreign debris inside, indicating that the engine may have ingested a flock of birds and then caught on fire.

The engine burned internally, people close to the investigation said. But its parts appeared intact, except for the damage from what is known in aviation as ``foreign object debris,'' or ``FOD.'' That would suggest that the engine didn't suffer a catastrophic failure from some mechanical breakdown, but from sucking in birds, these people said.

after you insult people you keep saying that you'll leave people alone, but you don't leave people alone, you go to a different thread, you find the same person and you say that that person said something that they did not say, when anyone uses logic or facts to formulate a view that conflicts with your government-god, then you attack them on a personal level, you are a classic definition of a naysayer, so don't complain when you are labeled in that manner. Also, you said that I was a 'truthseeker' through fabrication. I criticized the tendency of our government to fabricate information to promote a view. So, your comment is ridiculous, but very much in form.

If you have a different view, then please share it, if you think others' ideas are ridiculous, then say so, but you go much further than that, you attack people personally, you project onto them views that they did not express and you follow people from thread to thread to do this.

Yet they found the tail in the bay and both engines on land meaning the tail hit the ground before the engine

Well......first the killer birds attacked the tail, knowing from their terrorist training classes, that the plane couldn't fly without it.
Once they disengaged the tail, they went after the rest of the plane, so it would look like an accident, and people would still feed them french fries at McDonalds.

Yes, that is very bizarre, that the tail, which seemed undamaged, fell off FIRST.
That seems to be the part that all the "anti-conspiracy" Freepers prefer to overlook.

Yes Birds! This would be the second aircraft to be brought down at JFK by birds. Runway 22 ends at the edge of the bay which is a wildlife refuge. As I understand it there has been an ongoing battle between the airport authorities who try to "chase away" the birds during air operations and the "enviro wackos" who put the birds serenity above flight safety. Maybe "Blame the Greens" is more appropriate.

Just heard on the NPR hourly news that the NTSB is backing off the engine failure story. Apparently they are "puzzled" by the wide diispersal of the wreckage and the detachment of the tail section. There are now "more questions than answers" in the investigation.

Chalk up another one for the tin-foilers.

It is quite likely one would find some physical evidence of the birds or impact in the engine or on (unburned) parts on the airframe if it were a large bird or flock of birds that were struck.

This was posted by cookcounty at #8:

"The NTSB's leading ornithologist discovered an intact goose wishbone lodged between the fan blades."

LOL!! Yes, if we're going to declare war on Arabs for bringing down planes, we should declare war on birds too. From now on they can walk. A plane 3 minutes into take-off shouldn't have to encounter so many birds.

Again, I don't look good in tinfoil, but somethin' smells here. The one thing that the gubmint has in it's favor re: this dibacle is that they alone are allowed to make the call. What happens when the next flock of whatevers enters an engine? The f'n thing is only 10 feet wide. Who here will wait for the facts then? How many f'n Clinton enemies died in plane wrecks in the past 8 yrs? Who was responsible for making those calls? Thanks, NTSB, for your hard work and diligence.

And another thing; am I the only one here troubled by the fact that the gubmint was able to pull 265 bodies out of that nightmare in less than 10 hours? I haven't seen a whole bunch of plane wrecks, but it seems that you wouldn't be able to pull more than afew DNA samples out of that slew.

If you have a different view, then please share it...

I'm awaiting the results of the investigation and therefore have no "view" at this time. This is especially true since I have no inside information, no special knowledge, and no psychic powers that enable me to know that the government is lying to me. But then, when their report comes out anyone who believes it will be a dupe in your book anyway.

what about the fact that the tail section fell of before the engine?
I cannot explain or even verify that or much of anything else about this crash.

The fact that the tail section fell off first has been all over the news,
and you STILL can't verify it?

Ooooh, just LOOK at the Emporer's new clothes!!!
But, but.....I don't see any clothes!

You like to insult people who don't fall for the first line thrown at them before an investigation has even begun much less been completed. It's silly to believe they know for sure it's an accident or should even suggest that before they have any proof.

(BTW, I've not heard of a birdstrike related crash in my military career)

AWACS crash in Alaska in 1995 attributed to birdstrike, killed all personnel on board.

Belgian C-130 at Eindhoven in 1996, attributed to birdstrike, killed 34 people.

Kigali, Congo, April 20, 2000, transport sustained a birdstrike, killing at least 21.

For those that don't believe a bird can do anything to an aircraft, click here.
