With a Level One Emergency, I suspect, and strongly hope, is that the DOD has thrown the Air Cap up over metropolitan New York.
With all three airports closed, we have no business not putting fighter aircraft overhead. Just in case.

FAA now reporting it was an Airbus 320 on departure. Do your posting rules permit publication of this new info?
One hopes this is not a signal to other cells to take action. I doubt it, but be extra vigilent today.
On what is hopefully very unrelated, once again Bill Clinton is out of town.

WABC -- Air Controller
Airbus 306. Capacity 350 people. Everything appeared to be normal on departure. Switched to TRACON at Westbury LI normally.
Also, all airports, bridges, and tunnels are closed.

Irish, Italians, Slavs among others in Breezy Point. Mostly working and middle class. Moving west, Jews still in Belle Harbor and Neponsit, along with Irish and Italian. Only single family dwellings.
Moving to Rockaway Beach and Park, more working class. As you get to Far Rockaway, becomes completely African American. That area used to be Orthodox Jewish. No concentration of Arabs there.

Fire has changed from Class B to Class A. Most of the jet fuel would go up rapidly, leaving 'wood' and other solid combustibles to burn with 'white' smoke. Also, fire-fighting will change color of smoke and add steam to the plume.
