Girls play game of strip volleyball

FORT WORTH, Texas - Girl volleyball players at a Fort Worth middle school were asked by their coaches to play a game of "strip serve" volleyball, which school administrators criticized as inappropriate after some parents complained.

During the drill, held Sept. 21 at the Gene Pike Middle School gym, two girls took their shirts off and one girl may have taken off her shorts, district officials said.

Three female coaches supervised the 22 eighth-graders while they played the game, which required that team members take off shoes, socks, kneepads or hair accessories if a player missed a serve. After a few girls took it upon themselves to undress further, the drill was immediately stopped, administrators said.

The drill should have never been conducted, Northwest Independent School District Superintendent Keith Sockwell said on Monday.

"I thought it was the most stupid thing I ever heard. You just don't do things like that," he said.

An investigation began after several parents complained about the activity. Statements were taken from the players and the coaches, officials said.

The girls' written statements indicated that, for the most part, they were not upset about the game, Pike Principal Kyle Copp said. The coaches were "remorseful," he said.

The three coaches, whom the district declined to name, are still employed, Deputy Superintendent Ron Hibbs said. Some parents said that even though the coaches apologized to the players, they should have been punished.

"It's an appalling story," said the mother of a Pike volleyball player, who asked that her name not be used. "They got no reprimand for this that the kids could see. Nobody sees that there's consequences to bad choices."

Said another: "I think it was an error in judgment, and that's all it was - plain and simple."

The teachers very poorly conceived idea wasn't 'outrageous behavior.' The girls took the game too far, as 14 year olds are wont to do. The coaches screwed up, and now know not to introduce 'strip' ANYTHING in practice.

They should've known that BEFORE this story, though, and do need some serious reprimand. I don't think firing is quite appropriate, unless they have a few other little details in their employment records.

The coaches were female. If they were male, this would be splashed from one end of the world to the other - and the libs would be out in force.

I find it difficult to believe that our public school system is so devoid of standards for proper behavior. But then, its been a long slow slide downhill ever since Dewey.

But, since it was women coaches, it was "...an error in judgment..."
If it HAD been male coaches this certainly wouldn't be "all it was",

In all seriousness, considering the age of these girls, I would take my children out of this school if I were a parent. I would also wish some "Sicillian Justice" on the admistration.

They look like juniors in high school back in the 60's. [Might have something to do with all the hormones our food producers stuff into chickens and beef cattle].

There was a PBS special about 13 to 15 year old girls from a wealthy suburb in the South having sex orgies and drug partys with jocks all night. The guys would line up and go into a bedroom for "free monicas" .... PBS actually interviewed some of the girls. The girls gave very, very graphic descriptions of what went on and how messed up the girls were (far worse than the famous "blue dress") after these sessions.

Let's face reality. Our society has been totally corrupted. The publicity about Clinton's "monicas" has changed teen attitudes about sex forever ....

.... and the next time someone asks me if my (homeschooled) kids are missing out on "socialization", I'm going to show them this article. Public schools are horrible, appalling unrealistic institutions, run by an ineffectual and malevolent bureaucracy. Why do I say this? Because this "serve or strip" nonsense is all about public humiliation as a disciplinary tool--and the practice is performed everywhere in public schools. This just happened to be an egregious example.
