Micky Lolich did it in 1968 and I think (not sure) Bob Gibson did it against the Yanks in 1964. It's been done a few times -- but I don't think anyone has ever won both game 6 and game 7 before. Schilling and the Unit are like Viola/Blyleven gone nuclear.

Thanks for the info Scott. I tried to find the answer on MLB's Worldseries.com site. Unfortunately, its filled with lots of player stats, but none from the world series. lol

I know how deep they go. Right down to that big spot of jealousy in your heart. The most successful team in Baseball- of all time! No team will ever duplicate what the Yankees have done because they are still doing it!

Yes, you are right. Its called "schadenfruede", or taking pleasure in the troubles of others. But tonight is my night, and the night of all others who don't like the Yankees. In reality, I actually like all of them with the exception of Steinbrenner and Clemons, who have the NO class (Throwing at Piazza's head last year was Bush league). So I guess you like to defend the actions of Clemons since you like to praise the Yanks so much? At any rate, with the league skewed so much, any other result for the Yankees besides a World Championship is basically a failure.

Johnson gets what 3 wins? Thats got to be a World Series Record. 3 out of 4.

There's no denying Randy Johnson's greatness, but...

Mickey Lolich won 3 in '68.

Bob Gibson won 3 in '67.

Lew Burdette onw three in '57.

There are others. Go here.

But the most impressive pitching performance in World Series History was Christy Mathewson's three complete game shutouts in the 1905 Fall Classic.

Yeah, he was a Giant, but he was also a WWI hero, and had the nickname "The Christian Gentleman."

CM was one of the 10 greatest pitchers of all time. Military hero, too, eh? Sounds like the Democrats would have tried to disqualify his vote, too.

:( A definite shame. But to us New Yorkers, the Yanks are ALWAYS #1.

Thank you Bombers for a great season and an exciting Series. We love you no matter what!

Incredible. And that was back before pitchers needed a week in between starts to rest.

Was watching the game, and as fate would have it, my eyes closed at the start of the 9th. Woke up this morning, turned on FOX and saw gloomy faces with no baseball caps and said to myself "it can't be?!"

The DB's aren't getting the credit they deserve for winning against the mighty Yankees...just turn on the morning talk-shows, sports fans.

Congrats to the underdogs...and I am so disappointed I fell asleep! Shoot!

Yankees were cursed, just look at the moon over Phoenix:

It would appear that the fault lies totally at the hooves of the junior Senator, Commie - NY, the dishonorable Hillary Rodman (gedit?) Klintoon, a/k/a The Hag in the Moon.

What a stupid and idiotic assumption. I like the Yankees. They do not have a 100% perfect team. Who does? Steinbrenner is an a$$. Roger Clemens is a jerk. Other than that, the organization is a great one. But it's the history.....

At any rate, with the league skewed so much, any other result for the Yankees besides a World Championship is basically a failure.

Except beating the odds by beating the A's, whom no one thought they'd beat, and by beating the team with the most single season wins in the history of baseball (Mariners). Yeah, I can see where the shame is simply unbearable. The DBacks would have been considered the chokers had they lost.
But again, I congratulate them on a fine performance.
