What part of "kill the Jew first, and the Christian second" -- IN THE KORAN!!! -- is compatible with the Constitution?

I haven't read the Koran and I have no doubt it says just that. Read the Talmud and the Old and New Testament and I'm sure you'll find a myriad of statements that are "incompatible" with our Republic as well.

Every religion believes it is the one true religon. Zealots take that to the extreme and become irrational. It is theocracy and zealotry that are incompatible with the Republic, not Islam.

America is steeped in the Judeo-Christiann tradition but that doesn't mean a Muslim can't be a good American, which is what you seemed to be saying. Don't fall prey to the wartime propoganda.

Religion and faith are powerfull things and will always be used by the wicked to do evil. That doesn't make faith evil. Almost any authentic religious belief is preferable to atheism. Our beef is with ideologists and terrorists, not believers of Islam. Islam has saved many our country's downtrodden when neither the government nor Jesus could. Islam is and will continue to be a positive influence inside the borders of our Republic. Don't believe hype.

Every religion believes it is the one true religon.

I had missed that part. I hope I'm not flogging a dead horse, but I have to disagree here. I'm Methodist, and most Methodists I know are Methodist because the Methodist doctrine most closely resembles their own personal beliefs, ableit not exactly. (As a rule!) I don't know of any Methodist (including my mother, who is an ordained Methodist minister) who thinks that Methodism is the "one true religion." In fact, Methodists are taught to fully respect other religions. Only God knows what religion is the "right" religion, or if there even is such a thing. (Satanism, extremist Muslim, extremist any religion, notwithstanding!) Methodists believe, without doubt, that Judaism is the "chosen" faith, especially since Christianity was borne of it.

It is far more complicated than this, of course, but put simply, Methodists don't believe in "elitist" religion. Tolerance, acceptance, and truly embracing those of other faiths is encouraged, if not expected! Being open-minded is crucial. Only God knows, after all. In the end, only God knows.

Peace be with you!

Re: #419. Normally, I'd agree with almost everything you wrote. My very serious concern here however is how the current Islamic states treat their citizens.

We are supposed to be in modern times, an enlightened and educated world and yet even the "moderate" Islamic states are 200 years behind the times with respect to personal liberties etc.

It troubles me how they treat their own people.
