This one is interesting. Warner's just seen the ComPost give him another 10-point lead in the polls, and now he puts in more money... he knows it's going to be much, much closer than that.
Excerpts: Each [Earley and Warner] is promising dozens of initiatives totaling more than $4 billion in all types of spending, borrowing or forgone revenue through tax breaks over four years. And on several pledges that are potentially the most expensive -- such as shrinking class sizes or revamping a chronically troubled mental health system -- neither campaign will hazard a guess at the price tag.

Meanwhile, in Frederick County the leaves are falling...
SHEEESH, in Richmond, VA, the leaves have fallen...note to self, cut down trees before next Autumn...LOL!!

Living in Virginia, my impression is that Warner is a tax-and-spender using divisive tactics. He favors spending increases in the North while having the South help pay the bill. What does his brother, Senator Warner, have to say about him? And my representative, Virgil Goode? What is he saying?
While Tyler Whitley isn't nearly as biased as his bespeckled, bow-tied comrade, Jeff Schapiro, this headline is ridiculously-biased!! The only statement in the story lending any credence to that headline is the one from the Socialist Bastard-Child Professor from Mary Washington, and when you quote him you might as well be getting a quote from Mark Warner himself!!
Ross MacKenzie is a Good Conservative and the Editor of the RTD's Editorial Page, but the rest of the paper is as Leftist as the Washington ComPost!!

Doctor Farnsworth is a Socialist WHORE and his opinion means NOTHING!!!

Didn't hurt Gov. Wilder, did it? In fact, the flagging economy probably saved him from his Leftist Party and the Leftist Demons within his own mind, and Gov. Wilder was a much better Governor than Baliles and Robb.

Arthur, Mark Warner is unrelated to Senator John Warner, and Senator John Warner supports Mark Earley.
I believe that Virgil Goode is on record as endorsing Earley for governor.
It would be quite difficult to find any college or university academics at Virginia state schools that are supporting Earley, mainly due to backlash against the Gilmore budget cuts and construction freezes. Many of the projects Gilmore cut or froze were of marginal usefulness, anyway (an arts building at UVA, I seem to remember), but his perceived interference with the supposed "autonomy" of higher educations rankled a lot of them.
[Red faced.] Out here in Crystal Hill, we all thought they were related. LOL. Some people even say that Warner is the senator, himself.
What's really bad is that Warner's yard signs look more patriotic. Not good. Not good.
God help this state. We voted to get rid of the car tax. And the liberals sabotaged the budget, whined like babies, and made Gilmore run away, back down, and waffle.
Actually, Gilmore didn't back down, and it was a cabal of Republican Senators and Democratics in both the Virginia House and Senate that created the budget impasse over Gilmore's move to a 70% repeal level for the car-tax. They didn't like the methods he used to craft a budget with enough apparent revenue to fund the next stage of the repeal.
The question is, will who gets elected governor influence how he writes the budget for next year? If it's Warner, I think Gilmore should go to the 100% level and let Warner pull it back; if it's Earley, I think he'd be smarter to let the car-tax repeal law provisions kick in and freeze the repeal for a year until the economy picks up again (and I think Coop even agrees with me on this!)
Might be a good idea. I live just outside Frederick, MD, but due to both newspaper and TV coverage, I hear a lot about Virginia, and there are many issues of common concern for both states.
You'd be hard pressed to find college/university support for a Republican during the best of times.
You're kidding, right? I think Warner's signs are very poor. For one thing, it's very difficult to even tell what office he's running for.
I'm sure you already know, but those alleged budget cuts were the doing of the RINO Senators who are not the least bit comfortable with the GOP's newfound dominance in the Old Dominion. Of course, the Left's not about to let the Truth get in the way of a Good Anti-GOP Story!!
"...[Gilmore's] perceived interference with the supposed "autonomy" of higher educations rankled a lot of them."
The Leftist Bureaucracy that dominates our System of Higher Education is most certainly a major player in a lot of what is Wrong in this State--and this Country. Spending on Education has actually gone up dramatically during Gov. Gilmore's tenure, but you wouldn't know that if you depended on the Vast, LeftWing Medyuh Whore'd for yer news, which, unfortunately, way too many of the Sheeple still do!!

As Governor, Earley needs to press on with the car tax cut on schedule, as he promised. If he gets into with the state senate again, so be it. It will be his first year of a four-year term (with no follow on term, by law).
ROCKY MOUNT, Va. (AP) _ U.S. Rep. Virgil H. Goode Jr., an independent whose re-election bid was backed last year by the state Republican Party, endorsed GOP candidate for governor Mark Earley on Wednesday.
The former Democrat, who served in the Virginia Senate before being elected to Southside Virginia's 5th District congressional seat, announced the endorsement during an appearance with Earley at the Rocky Mount Farmers Market.
``Mark Earley has the experience and the know-how to effectively govern the commonwealth's affairs,'' Goode said. ``Having served in Virginia's state Senate with Mark, I am intimately familiar with his consensus-building leadership skills and ability to reach across party lines _ a critical tool for a successful governor.''
Earley, a former state attorney general, is running in the Nov. 6 election against Democrat Mark Warner, a wealthy businessman and former state party chairman.
``Mark Warner considers Virgil Goode a good friend, but he's not at all surprised he's chosen to endorse Earley because he's been consistently endorsing Republicans,'' said Warner spokeswoman Amanda Crumley.
