RICHMOND - President George W. Bush will issue a letter to Virginians this week urging them to vote for Mark Earley for Governor, saying Earley's "experienced and steady leadership will keep Virginia's economy strong and the Commonwealth safe." The letter reaffirmed the President's strong endorsement of Mark Earley this summer.
President Bush states in the letter: "Mark Earley, Jay Katzen, and Jerry Kilgore are experienced leaders with a positive agenda to keep Virginia moving forward - with lower taxes, better schools, and more jobs. They understand it is better to cut taxes than to raise them. They understand we must continue to improve the education opportunities for our children by making sure students have good teachers, smaller classes, and accountable schools. And they understand in times like these experienced and steady leadership will keep Virginia's economy strong and the Commonwealth safe."
On July 26th, President Bush officially endorsed Mark Earley during an Oval Office meeting in which the President predicted Earley would win "because he knows a couple of truths - one, that it's important to let people keep their own money... And secondly, he has prioritized education and he knows full well that if you have a governor who knows how to lead you can set clear spending priorities."
Attached is a full text of the President's letter and a photo from Mark Earley's July 26th Oval Office meeting with President Bush.
PRESIDENT GEORGE W. BUSH
My fellow American,
In these important times, I ask you to do something important for our nation: Please vote in Virginia's elections on November 6th.
By voting, you reaffirm our nation's commitment to democracy and show the world that America is strong.
I also encourage you to support Mark Earley, Jay Katzen, and Jerry Kilgore.
Mark Earley, Jay Katzen, and Jerry Kilgore are experienced leaders with a positive agenda to keep Virginia moving forward - with lower taxes, better schools, and more jobs. They understand it is better to cut taxes than to raise them. They understand we must continue to improve the education opportunities for our children by making sure students have good teachers, smaller classes, and accountable schools. And they understand in times like these experienced and steady leadership will keep Virginia's economy strong and the Commonwealth safe.
This Tuesday, Mark Earley, Jay Katzen, and Jerry Kilgore have the chance to lead Virginia to a better future and a brighter tomorrow - but only if you vote. Please take time this Tuesday, November 6, to vote for these good men. They deserve your support, and as your leaders, they will make all of us proud.
Thank you, and God bless you, your family, and America.
Sincerely,
George W. Bush
President
Agreed...Clinton was in campaign mode each and every day he was in office and Thank God Dubyuh ain't like that. Still, Dubyuh's got the tendency to take this bi-partisanship thing a bit too far...we Virginian GOPers--and the JoiseyGOPers--need his help right now, and the Letter, while appreciated, ain't gettin' it!!
FReegards...MUD
So, you volunteerin' to open up all of our GW letters?
I suggest gloves and a mask.
Looks like RNC is jumping in with both feet in VA and NJ. Most likely they would have been there a lot sooner if it wasn't for Sep 11th. They quit fundraising for almost a month and their website wasn't touting upcoming GOP races either. Guess our contributions are being put to great use. I don't think they would be so visible if RNC didn't think both candidates in VA and NJ stand a chance to win. I admit that I think that Earley stands a much better chance of winning of the two.
Agreed.
bump for Earley
Normally, I'd agree. The only reason I'd prefer a television or radio commercial is Earley's Dem opponent has spent millions of his own money saturating the television since March. I'm not sure a letter cuts through all that to get anyone's attention. Please see the FR Virginia Page for news and information.
Although I haven't received a letter yet, I've read several copies. I like it. It generated several articles in print, and I know of one or two people who heard about it on TV/radio. While the writers and commentators undoubtedly tripped over themselves to say how it wasn't enough, or only lukewarm support, the fact is President Bush is very popular now and free publicity for the campaign.
Dead heat in the polls (slight Warner advantage), prior to NRA and Presidential endorsements. I like Earley's chances.
Bush's Political Guru Finds Himself on Periphery
pending is a decision on whether Bush will campaign directly for Republican Mark Earley, who is running behind Democrat Mark Warner in Tuesday's Virginia gubernatorial election.
