Despite a last-minute denial from the White House, sources tell ABCNEWS the anthrax in the tainted letter sent to Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle was laced with bentonite. The potent additive is known to have been used by only one country in producing biochemical weapons; Iraq

So what happen to the VRWC?
To: Liberal Bob
Bingo, WE HAVE A WINNER! WILL MR. SADAM HUSAINE (sp?) COME FORWARD AND RECEIVE HIS PRIZE. No? expect your "surprize package" worth millions of dollars to arrive in IRAQ care of the USAF, USN, and other military sponsors within the near future.

So what happen to the VRWC? I think the leaders are afraid that a conclusive tie to Iraq will cause mass demands for swift retribution -- and they'd rather wait for the right time. Or, something's already under way, and we risk spooking Saddam.

And I'm afraid you're right:

"Troubling" to ABC because is flies in the face of hanging anthrax attacks on the right wing.
I think this thing is a matter of timing. I think that "proof" of Iraqi complicity will show up as soon as the U.S. can manage a second front on the war. Until then, the official position will be one of waffling.
To: Liberal Bob
Possible explanation: The administration doesn't want to telegraph their plans against Iraq.

The potent additive (bentonite)Oh, please. Bentonite is just about as innocuous and harmless a substance as can be imagined. It is simply a pure form of clay, used as a dessicant and absorbent. Its probable use in anthrax is to keep the spores dry and therefore less likely to clump together. But the chemical is not "potent" except in the scientifically illiterate minds at ABC.

Time to dust off the Enola Gay.
To: Liberal Bob
I haven't seen anyone define what bentonite is. It's a type of volcanic clay which has many industrial uses, from oil drilling operations to beauty products to cat litter.
To: Restorer
it's also found in many clumping cat box litters.

Potent, as in "potent proof"?

It may not be potent but it may be a distinctive signature.
To: Restorer
LOL!! Didn't know that one but I'm glad you caught that and pointed it out.

Bentonite ... The potent additive Bentonite is a very common clay. It is used as a filtration agent in labs as well as to make pottery. It would not be unusual to find bentonite in any laboratory product that had not been cleaned up.

Potent, maybe, in giving the finished product the ability to become a fine dust. Ever changed a cat box?
To: Restorer
I agree. Here's some info on Bentonite:

I heard on the news tonight on the car radio that they are still trying to blame it on domestic terrorists. Is there a secret agenda going here? Who trusts the government to tell the truth? Who loves ya, baby?
