Thanks for the post...appreciate it

"...The fact is, a majority of Americans are deeply concerned about their eroding rights. But, it's also a fact they've been too silent for too long about their concern. It's time for the great silent majority of Americans to send a clear message to Washington. It takes repeated individual action. It takes constant organized action, such as ... CPAC. Use the tools of our era including the Internet ... FreeRepublic.com. Fortunately, the message is a simple one, but it must be repeated loudly and often. It only takes three words. Leave ... us ... alone!..."

A reading of George Washington's Farewell Address is in order for the nation, including all of our elected officials! Washington's telescopic vision is proving to be uncanny.

Yielding up the liberty left to us by our knowledgeable and brave ancestors of the founding generation should not have been taken lightly. Theirs it was to enshrine the formula in a Declaration of Independence and to secure "the Blessings of Liberty" through a written Constitution which lasted for more than 200 years.

"What form of government have you given us?" asked the lady of Mr. Franklin. "A republic, Madam," said he, "if you can keep it."

Had we not allowed our schools and our homes to stop passing on the ideas of liberty, no politicians could have wrested adequate power from us to enslave us (oh, and the pulpits have not helped either, as they did in the revolutionary period).

Restore the founding ideas to prominence in the "public square" and the very common sense of them will captivate the minds of millions of young Americans, too long dulled by the liberal pablum of counterfeit ideas.

The Bush cheerleaders have no political convictions. They are not conservative, they just like to be on the winning team.

...while going down with the ship...

BTW, Barr talks a great game, but in effect he is advocating the overthrow of the very organization that he belongs to. The fact that he hasn't resigned yet tends to lend some "legitimacy" to this movement to restrict our rights.

So, you think he and others would be more effective fighting the erosion of the Constitution from outside the Capitol?

Yeah, right. Any and every member of Congress who has an issue with the status quo should resign, "boycott" the Congress. That would fix the problems. </sarcasm>

To his shame, when the time came to stand up for freedom and the Constitution, Mr. Barr failed and voted with the party instead of upholding his oath of office. It was a sad day for him and the nation.

Georgia Congressman Bob Barr, the gimlet-eyed Grand Inquisitor of Capitol Hill, has long been a foe of medical or recreational use of marijuana. When citizens of Washington, D.C., voted overwhelmingly to legalize pot for medical use last fall, Republican Barr led the charge to nullify a vote that the pro-pot forces won fair and square. On Oct. 21, a small band of medical marijuana advocates blocked the door to Barr's Washington office in an act of nonviolent civil disobedience to dramatize the fact that political hacks like Barr talk about the evils of ''big government'' while using their big government power to negate legal votes of citizens and withhold a cheap and effective medicine that could help Americans suffering from such conditions as AIDS and cancer chemotherapy.

From Online Athens (Georgia), Nov 20, 1999.

Bob Barr is full of CRAP. He talks out both sides of his mouth.

You cannot have only a little tyranny. He is the Neville Chamberlain of the Congress.

My point was that Barr's comments are a direct attack on the integrity of an institution that he himself belongs to. The risk he runs is that people will stop taking Congress (and, by extension, he himself) seriously as a legitimate governing body.

If you look at the development of historical events in Eastern Europe, you'll notice that very few of those governments were reformed from within. For the most part, they rotted from the inside and were toppled from the outside.

I don't know if you have it but I bought 50 copies of the Wasington Times on Tuesday May 4, 1999.

On the back page of section A in a FULL PAGE advertisment is a picture of a neuclear bomb going off and the title is "WE DARE CALL IT TREASON, paid for by FreeRepublic.com.

On the front page of the paper the headline is "KLA rebels in terrorist camps" and a picture of O B Laden.

While we AND THE 42nd were all diverted by the "treason of Klinton" surrounding the COX REPORT our security agencies were too busy redacting the report and did NOTHING to bring O B L to justice.

Uh, okay. So, (... wondering what that has to do with the situation here, ...) exactly how many of those governments were representative republics?

However, the further danger of these proposed regulations lay in its mandate that every American have their federal Social Security number permanently identified with their state drivers license. If this regulation had been implemented, anyone who wished to be allowed to drive on the roads paid for with their tax dollars, would first have to produce a Social Security number and have it printed on their drivers licenses.

Someone needs to explain to Bob that this has ALREADY happened with the "Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1995".
The Act requires everyone to produce a social security number in order to recieve any state issued license.

. . . exactly how many of those governments were representative republics?

When you are dealing with an electorate as dumb as ours, does it really matter? Totalitarian governments are not the only ones that rot from within, as evidenced by almost every "representative" government in the West.

Obvious solution (as every good FReeper knows):

Repeal the 19th Amendment and all the others >15.
