I laughed out loud when I read this one. This snooping can be thwarted easily and without cost...go to MIT and download the latest copy of freeware PGP, the encryption software, and encrypt your email with it. Rest assured the terrorists will be.

"Those are some really bad laws and will undoubtably cause lots of grief for the American people over the years..."

Then help me understand what specifically is so bad about one or two of those news laws, please.

Maybe if they were allowed to do this all along they could have interecepted some terrorists messages.

BTW, did you know that Whoresama's boys like to encrypt their messages in pornographic pictures which they download from porno sites.

Aren't these the very same types of sites which groups like EPIC tried to keep g-men from tracking download traffic?

Please note that the reason it is called a one time pad is that it should only be used once. It is possible to break a one time pad, especially if the pad is created with a simple mapping of letters to codes. It is simple to run a statistical analysis on the morse 'codes' to determine the frequency of occurence of the letters, and deduce the mappings, especially if you know the language the message was written in. PGP encryption is very common and software is available that integrates the encryption/decryption with email (Outlook and Netscape). You literately just click a button before hitting send, choose the key you want to use (usually tied to the recipients email) and type in your pass phrase. The default 2048-bit encryption will encode your message so effectively that it just will not be worth it for anyone to spend the time and money to decrypt it. Another andvantage of the PGP software is that it enables you to encrypt files on your hard drive. Even if your computer is stolen, your files can be secure.

The evidence to the contrary is what this thread is about, "FBI seeks to wiretap internet." The evidence is there in front of you.

Ever hear of the phrase, "Doing the wrong thing for the right reasons" Good, I thought you might.

Are you serious? I have nothing to hide and I do not want anyone spying on me.
Security means that much to you that you're willing to give up freedom? Shame on you. We will live to regret the new GESTAPO law.

Who is "spying" on you now? Don't you think that most of what you do on the internet is available to anyone, public OR private that wants it?

You don't have a right to fly (unless you were born with wings) but you do have a right of transporation. You could still move across the country freely. But if Bush has his way, soon we won't be able to walk down the street without a frisk.
Yeah, that's right! Bush is the bad guy. I'm voting for Osama bin Laden in 2004 - how bout you???? (/sarcasm)

But now with the GESTAPO law, it is much easier. This is a bad law whether you see it as such or not. As with everything in life: Time will tell!!!

Rubbish. I have a pilot's license. I have the right to fly. The question was "what rights has the government ever taken from the people that we have ever gotten back". Well, my right to fly was taken away after 9/11, but it has already been given back to me.

"Bad example. Habeus Corpus can be suspended constitutionally."

You are missing the point. The question was what rights have the people ever lost to government that we have ever gotten back. In fact, the author of that question was acting as though NO RIGHT had ever been returned once it was lost to the government. That's simply a Libertarian myth.

We citizens have lost the right of Habeus Corpus, yet we have gotten it back. We have lost the right to purchase sugar and silk hose, yet we have gotten those rights back. We have lost the right to purchase gold, yet we have gotten that right back. We have lost the right to fly, yet we have gotten that right back.
