The Censored Republic
Free Republic | Jim Robinson

Posted on 10/25/2001 8:59:47 PM PDT by Jim Robinson

Ok, this is a free for all thread. Come in and take your best shots. I promise I won't delete it or get upset. Get it out of your systems and then we will see if we can solve the problems. There always several sides to any story and several possible solutions to any problem. I'd like to hear them all and I'd like to solve as many problems as we can and get this forum kicking socialist butt again instead of kicking each other. So, please anyone with a complaint or a problem or a possible solution, (moderators, posters, FAB, everyone) please chime in. Thanks, Jim

Two issues:

1) I agree with a previous reply. Because I frequently make spelling mistakes I'd like the ability to retract a post within a reasonably short time span to avoid personal embarrasment.

2) Background: I shut down my computer using the "hybernate" function in W2k which doesn't require me to log on every time I visit except when you've had a system reset during my absence. As a consequence of this convenience I'm not usually aware of a need to log on until I attempt to reply to a post.

The problem: After I've logged on again and click on the "OK" command I am not returned to the post and reply I was working on when interrupted by the necessity to log on again

A lot of stuff gets pulled from breaking news. We get a lot of duplicates posted there. Also, stuff that is no longer breaking. If it broke yesterday or 12 hours ago, it aint breaking news anymore. Can't tell what it was on your specific thread, of course. Hillary's blouse? Obviously that one should've been pulled.

Can we get some clearer posting guidelines prominently displayed so that we can tell where the line is before we cross it and have threads pulled or worse be suspended or banned? Which topics are forbidden to discuss? Unfortunately there can be irreconcilable disagreements between libertarians and Christian conservatives over some subjects even though we both tend to believe in less government.

I do appreciate this site.

I think that happens when a whole thread is pulled but then put back.

The standards you have set and maintained for FR through the years have made it the best political news and activism site on the Web. You, along with all the FReepers who keep your standards, have accomplished the miracle of connecting disparate (mostly) like-minded people and harnessing their energy to move political mountains with their patriotic will.

It's been a pleasure watching, and participating in, this great effort to save America. Whenever FR goes through changes, I try to grit them out because I know in the long run things will work out--and so far they have.

My biggest complaint is that we don't have the kind of money to do more than we do. A lesser complaint is, I'd like to have the search function restored to what is was before.

I've been too busy lately to feel comfortable commenting on the problems folks are having with the moderators. I haven't had many disagreements with their decisions--I guess I just haven't seen what the fuss is about with them.

I appreciate a chance to give input. A great forum here, but the censorship has gone amuck with your latest software changes and moderator "delete" features.... Suggestions:

1. Moderators - don't delete anything, unless you really, really, must. Get a second opinion if you feel you should delete. The cries about "bandwidth" is nonsense as you well know.

2. "Breaking News" sidebar moderator(s)? Who is deciding what should remain in "breaking news" now? For a while there, the important stuff got deleted, while the trivial stuff stayed up forever! I would rather see this totally unmoderated with duplicate threads rather than every blame breaking news story being removed so quickly that not even ONE remains on a given subject...

3. Fire the moderators, every one of them, lol. Or subdue them at least. I know you have to do some "moderation", but please, don't worry yourselves silly about "duplicate" threads....after all, people who post are more important than ascii characters....and those who are driven crazy by duplicate threads must have very simple and easy lives if thats there major beef with the world...;)

Other than that, great forum, thanks to all who keep it going!

THANK YOU Jim. You are great. FreeRepublic is a fantastic forum, second to none technically or spiritually.

It is great human undertakings like this that show why America will win this war. Americans are good people.

Much of the world thinks of America as some sort of rich bully, they see only the worst side of us, they've watched for 8 years sick lost souls such as Clinton and sick lost policies like the bombing of Yugoslavia, and think we're an easy target.

But the soul of America is not that of Bill Clinton. Bill Clinton is an anomaly. An unholy hijacking of American culture.

We here at FreeRepublic have a heritage of the best of America, we've enjoyed great Freedom of speech in the face of the evil Clinton regime, and it is patriots in the spirit of this forum who have stuck with the true American spirit through thick and thin that will win the good fight to preserve our country and allow us to continue this tradition.

I remember back to the days of delivering Alamo Girl's list to the Congress, and I inevitably think, "if only more of them had read it. If only the representatives of this country had shared the patriotism of FR, there might not have been a 9/11."

We cannot change history. But we can be proud of our heritage and one of the things all Americans should be proud of Today is FreeRepublic.

>>>setting two shots and two beers on the bar, one for each of us<<<
Is there any way to find out what I used as a screen name, if I was logged on at all that is, waaaaay back in the old days and didn't recognize the "new and improved" FR when I logged on again under my current name?
A whole bunch of "time and circumstance" has passed under this ol' bridge, and I've let many things slip my mind since '96.

With respect Mr. Robinson, I don't think the Inspector is as bad as all that. He's more in line with A+Bert. Stupid, crazy rambling posts/replies--and paranoid conspiracy theories lurking in every recess of their minds--but actually providing comic relief.

This is almost as good as SEX

But, then, (I only have six children) what would I know?

Jim...this is great. I use it for my classes in both Political Science and (uuukk) Sociology at the college. Katherine has used it for her Critical Thinking classes, and her Western Civ. History classes when applicable.

If you want to talk about the Market Place of Ideas this is the place to be!

...the Ameican troops yelled as they stormed the walls of the Forbidden City in China(Boxer Rebellion) Keep up the Fire! Free Republic Forever! (okay, the Free Republic Forever! was an 'add-on') but, it's the same kinda American Thing.

Please; Keep Up the Fire!
