Daschle Anthrax Was Given a Boost

nthrax spores mailed to Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle's office were rendered even more deadly by a chemical additive that investigators suspect was made in the U.S., according to a report today.

The sophisticated substance enables the spores to stay suspended in air so they can be more easily inhaled.

Iraq and the former Soviet Union are the only other countries thought to be able to produce the additive, according to The Washington Post.

But an unnamed government source with direct knowledge of the investigation told the newspaper that so far it doesn't look like they did.

Each nation used a different technique in creating the additive, so experts hope continuing microscopic and chemical analysis will point to its origin.

But pinpointing the origin may not necessarily identify the terrorists, because the anthrax possibly could have been stolen from the three countries' stocks during the past few years.

My guess, it's Iraqi made, since it's not resistant to antibiotics. Both the U.S. and Soviet Union were supposed to have been capable of producing genetically engineered, antibiotic resistant strains.

But Iraq is supposed to lack that genetic engineering technology.

First it was, then it wasn't, now it is again. I think our government is purposefully muddying up the waters about the anthrax source so as to confuse our enemies, and vicariously--to confuse us.

Has it occurred to anyone that the anthrax itself may have come from Iraq, but the people sending it may in fact be home-grown terrorists? Consider the McVeigh link to Iraq that has been discussed lately. Perhaps Iraq/bin Laden are layering themselves through local 'cells' here in America. It's much easier for those who 'look' American to move around without suspicion than it is for those who 'look' Arab. Don't you think?
