This is not meant as a flame, but as something to ponder. I imagine DU gets about 1,000 hits a day, and probably 80 percent are freepers going over there to see what the whackjobs are up to. When we post their crap here, it gets far more coverage than if we just left it floating in the DU toilet. Is it best to just ignore them? Or do you perceive a benefit to increasing their readership by posting their venom on FR?

There's no doubt that it would be better to ignore DU. It's also better to ignore the car wreck on the side of the highway -- but a certain percentage of the population just can't.

I've often made the exact same point, but you get the morons here who insist that prowling on some left-wing idjit's website, popping up and shouting "Oh yeah? So's your old man!" strikes a blow for liberty and freedom.

Some people are easily amused.

No.

Yes. Since most of their increased readership is from fellow Freepers I see no harm in exposing the DU. Or are you somehow worried that some Freepers will actually get converted into leftwing liberal lunatics over there? Somehow I have a bit more faith in my fellow Freepers.

(Adapted from .. Amateur Radio Direction Finding, page 4)

How do we deal with jammers?

There are 4 steps to dealing with jammers:

1. Ignore
2. Ignore
3. Ignore
4. When in doubt, refer to rules #1, #2, and #3.

The jammer feeds on attention. It wants to hide behind the anonymity of a computer. It is a vandal, a graffiti artist on the web. By denying or ruining the pleasure that others derive from using the web, the jammer makes up for the frustration and powerlessness that consume its everyday life. Above all, the jammer craves attention. IGNORE IT! IGNORE IT! IGNORE IT! The cruelest thing you can do to a jammer is to completely ignore its presence. Leave it scratching its head, wondering if its words are really interfering. In many cases, you can continue your conversation as though the jammer were not present. If not, end the conversation normally and resume it later.

Do not acknowledge the jammer in any way, shape, or form. Don't say "the idiots are out tonight". Don't say "Can the adults out there still here me?" Don't say "tinfoil brigade". Don't explain what you'd like to do to the jammer. Don't try to threaten it or reason with it. Again, IGNORE IT! IGNORE IT! IGNORE IT! Like any other untamed animal, the jammer will go where food and water (in this case, attention) are plentiful. Please don't feed the jammers!

I agree with your comment that the Democratic Underground is a pipsqueak Internet site that gets little traffic and little notice. I tend to think we gain little and they gain a lot, when their predicable, reality-free drivel is posted on Free Republic.

I do know, however, that there is a hard-core, ultra-liberal band of Clintoninstas who will defend the Dreadful Duo until the last dog dies. Such people eed to be attacked at every opportunity whenever they appear in any public forum, but I seriously question the wisdom of giving them a major forum by posting their articles. (I fully concur that such mental midgets should be welcome to post on Free Republic, and stand the flames as long as they can.)

I agree - if I want to see some sh#t, I'll go to a bathroom. We already know DemocRATs hate firefighters, police, military, Republicans, etc. - it's not "news".
