A congressional expert on terrorism said there are thousands of well-trained Mideastern terrorists in the United States who are capable of "spectacular" acts of violence.
Two terrorism experts said they have never seen such estimates from an official government source; others declined to comment.

Experts? My gosh, what does it take to see the enormity of the threat. To miss it, it seems one only need be a Congressman voting on whether or not to tighten control on U.S. boarders.
Imagine your worst fears and those are the very real threats that we face. And they don't have anything to do with how people's feelings are going to be hurt - Noonan's most recent column is pretty instructive on all points.

I guess there's the answer - we're more concerned about the "sensitive Muslims" than safeguarding the country. Here in liberal Montgomery County, MD (suburb of Washington DC) we had a Town Hall meeting a few weeks ago. When it was our police chief's turn to tell the audience how he had responded to the initial reports on 9-11, all he spoke about was how quickly he had "reached out" to the Moslem community to see if they felt safe and how he had sent squad cars to the mosques and cultural centers to protect them against bigotry. NO mention at all of what he had done (if anything) to protect us non-Moslem citizens on a day when there could have been other suicide bombers on the loose. In other words, the lives of thousands of US citizens is not as important as "respecting diversity."

Islam is a peaceful religion.Yes, you make a good point. It is important that we respect other religions. I respect the fact that most Mohammadans want to go to paradise. Therefore, I respectfully submit that our military diligently assist as many of these faithful Mohammadans in becoming martyrs for Allah (who is all great)as possible, using all available technology at our disposal. Amen.

Perhaps the Muslim community in America, the 3,000,000 or so, should inspect their own ranks and HELP rout out the cowardly bin laden terrorist thugs. Who would know better?

Three Million Muslims
0.1 percent yields 3,000 terrorists
Only 1 per 1000 ... ?
The question one has to ask is,
"Is 1 per 1000 too high or too low?"
Only the Muslims really know.
Are they going to tell?

The truth is, Mohammed Atta couldn't even recruit enough suicide warriors to hold four airplanes. He had to make 3/4 of his people think they were involved in a simple hijacking. And if you believed that line of BS, I bet you believed the one about Bob Stevens catching pulmonary anthrax by "drinking from a mountain stream."

another 9/11 ....
I'm afraid it is going to take a lot more than the events of 9/11.
The situation is clear. For reasons unfathomable to me (although I am sure they involve money) our government is going to sacrifice many more thousands of us before it gains the courage to clamp down on the stinking terrs in our midst.
I have taken skepticism to new and untold heights. I don't even think deportation, and lie detector tests of M.E. questionables will take place if a suit case nuke is smuggled into the superbowl killing 100,000. I have no faith in our leadership and not much in the general population ... because it's only a few that seem to even want to survive. How else can the fact that there is no clamour for deportation be explained?

Excellent point in post #46, Republic. Unfortunately, the American Muslim community has been pathetic in their public response. A few individuals have come forward on local talk radio to condemn the acts, but no unified show of condemnation from a leader. In fact, the basic response from the Muslim/Arabic/Pakistani/Syrian/Egyptian/ Middle Eastern heritage communities is that their civil rights are being violated.
Farrakhan is a US citizen and a Muslim. Hey, Louis... let's show some true leadership... and inspire your dedicated followers to sniff out the traitors amongst us. Would you do that for America, Louis? If not, why not?

I have to add ... How many ivory tower residents of the punditocracy have told us that PC is now dead due to the events of 9/11? I should have kept a list so I would know who to stop reading because anyone who believes this is a moron.
PC is so all pervasive and endemic that it is now 1000% deadly. Once it was a nuisence. Now it gets us slaughtered by terrs. GOD DAMN the politically correct to hell!! And that is not in vain. It is a fervent prayer.

Right, trax--you hide them in plain sight....filling our gas tanks, behind the register of the convenience store, living (free) on our college campuses, driving our taxi cabs, etc. etc. etc.

It took the disaster of Hitler's conquest of Denmark and Norway to bring Churchill to power in Britain in 1940. Once Churchill came to power, the war was prosecuted seriously. There was of course the added stimulus of the fall of France. Enemy aliens -- most of whom were leftist and Jewish refugees from Nazi Germany -- were interned, people suspected of sympathy with Germany were arrested and imprisoned for years on the flimsiest of charges. In other words, the war was prosecuted seriously.
I suspect Bodansky is right that we are vulnerable to another spectacular atrocity. However, I would say we are also just one spectacular atrocity away from mass deportations and internments.

You deserve to spend time in the Middle East with your peaceful kin.

From everything I've read, you're wrong on the estimates of Islamic terrorists and sympathizers in this nation. It's much higher. You need to check other posts with information from Steve Emerson, the expert on this situation. You read his work and I promise you, you'll change your views.
To: grimalkin
If Bodansky is telling the truth that there are thousands of terrorist living in this country for a decade, then this is the mother of all poison pills left by the bent one. I don't think America will survive this one.
