Loony Left Losing Its Cover
CNSNews.com ^ | October 17, 2001 | Brad Keena

Hundreds of people descended on a meeting of the Madison, Wisconsin, School Board, angry at an earlier decision by the Board banning the Pledge of Allegiance because of the words "one nation under God."

Last week the Board voted to instruct its schools to avoid any references to God and use only instrumental versions of the national anthem - not the pledge - as the way to comply with a new state patriotism law. The Board's majority worried that the words "one nation under God" might offend atheists and agnostics, and that the lyrics of the national anthem were too militaristic.

One week, 18,000 e-mails and 2,000 phone calls later, the Board changed its mind in a meeting before an overflowing crowd of angry parents. And so it is.

Now that we're all awake, everyone can see that the emperor has no clothes. The tragedy of September 11 has served as a wake-up call to a nation that had been hypnotized by political correctness for way too long.

The landscape has changed beyond the New York skyline. Lying in the rubble of September 11 are things like the silly debate over gun control, bitterness over the close Florida elections, sensitivity over the rights of criminals and immigration.

Even liberal New York Times columnist Frank Rich admits that polls are showing 94 percent of Americans support the war effort, "with even a supposed bastion of leftism like the Harvard student body proving pro-war by more than two to one."

[By the way, can you imagine how stupid Missouri Senator Jean Carnahan (D) must be feeling right about now? After her husband died in the middle of his election challenge to John Ashcroft, the voters elect him posthumously after she pledges to serve in his place. When the polls close, Ashcroft delivers perhaps the most magnanimous concession speech since John the Baptist, praises her late husband and wishes her well. Two months later, incoming President Bush nominates Ashcroft to serve as Attorney General, and Mrs. Carnahan votes against him! Even the Democrats agree Ashcroft is nothing short of a superb Attorney General. Next fall, Mrs. Carnahan is going to have to explain to the Missouri voters why she went out of her way to vote against the confirmation of her late husband's magnanimous opponent, even though her party clearly didn't have the votes and certainly didn't need her vote.]

Across the land, this newfound disdain for the insipid whining of the loony Left is like a much-needed shot in the arm for a weary culture. Sensible people in communities like Madison, Wisconsin, are tired of being told that mentioning God offends people, tired of being told that owning a gun makes them a criminal, tired of being told that the U.S. is a bully nation that brought this on itself.

While the unspeakably evil terrorist acts of September 11 produced immediate death and suffering, the back draft of truth and reality that blanketed America in the month that followed has created the opposite result. People all over the country are proud to be American. Flags are flying everywhere. People are praying and worshipping.

We are, perhaps, still one nation under God after all. Free Congress Foundation

Maybe the majority will finally stand and state once and for all that the majority of the people deserve to have these things (self-evident truths). If the small minority doesn't like it - they don't have to participate. Sorry, but that's the way it is.

What a freeing change.

GOD BLESS AMERICA!

What's really shocking is that this is Madison, WISCONSIN...on of the real bastions of the looney left....perhaps the most far-left city in the country.....

If they were REALLY serious about banning the word "God" in their school, they shouldn't allow any American currency or coins into the schools. They also need to ban dictionairies and reference books.

You're right, it is a liberal bastion. But don't let that fool you into think that we're all liberal here. Granted, I'm just "visiting" while I'm in school - I could never live here permanently - but you'd be surprised that there are Republicans around. Don't forget that this was Scott Klug's congressional district, and the Republican (Sharpless) that we ran against our lesbian congresswoman got 48% of the vote in the last election.

This city may be far left, and they may run the place, but that doesn't mean we're all screwed up. Just look at what happened at the school board meeting. You can bet most of the people there were conservatives, because this time, the left was afraid to show up.

How true ..how so very true. Though Berkeley/Portland/Austin are a close second.

Did you all hear, though, that children will be allowed to sit down to protest the saying of the Pledge? They don't have to join in the saying of the Pledge of Allegiance.

Please someone inform the Liberals of this. It was this week that gray davis showed his hatred of America by signing into law a blatantly unconstitution anti-gun bill (see Emerson decision for discussion of individual right to Keep and Bear arms).

I also note that we have not yet deported every illegal imigrantt from every Islamic nation that supports terror against the USA.

Stay well - stay safe - Stay armed - Yorktown

Hey, here in Ithaca we resent your claim that Madison is the most loony-left town in the USA. We'll match Madison loony-for-loony any day of the week. Has Madison, like Ithaca, recently had a self-described socialist as its mayor? NO! Does Madison, like Ithaca, currently have a candidate for local office publicly stating that the USA is a "rogue nation" that had it coming on September 11th? NO!

ITHACA RULES AS BASTION OF THE LOONY LEFT!

It's interesting that you are "visiting" Madison in order to attend the university, but that you would never live here because it's too liberal. Believe me, if that's your attitude, I'll help you pack your bags if and when you graduate.

Oh, I see how it works Herb, she's not as liberal as you so she should go away? Rather narrow view I would think...

Since you're not even a Madison resident, but are here taking advantage of all the benefits of this 'commie' town, too bad if you don't like her

Hmm...benefits. Like the bus system? (which never seems to work properly and sucks city money down the drain). Or the fabulous roads? (which have thrown my tires out of alignment on several occasions, and go unplowed in foot-high snowstorms.)

I'm here for the school. There's nothing wrong with me being here and being totally critical of what goes on. I pay my state taxes, and it just so happens that the school I attend (heavily subsidized by those tax dollars) is in a town I'd rather not be in.

As for my "slur" that our congresswoman is a lesbian, it should go to prove a point. Take a look at her voting record and sponsored bills for the 3 years she's been in Congress. She might just be one of the biggest do-nothings going, which is interesting since she campaigned on being an activist who would take her philosophy to Washington. The fact that she is a lesbian, in my opinion, is the one thing that will keep getting her re-elected. She uses it for all it's worth, and her hardcore supporters here will vote for her solely on that issue. Point: it's as much of an identification for her as the word "Democrat" or "liberal."

As for graduation, your "if and when" bit was cute. I've already done it once...in 4 years, no less, and plan to do it again in 3.

Fine, fine, partial apology accepted. And I didn't even throw in the fact that Ithaca has its own currency ("Ithaca Hours") so that we don't have to participate in the evil capitalist conspiracy otherwise known as the US economy!

Worth a bump.

It's refreshing and even exciting to see some common sense blowing in the wind and getting rid of the absurdist PC dogma that finds everything patrotic or that mentions God as 'offensive' and punishable by banishment, fines or jail time, depending on the circumstances and how far left the local authorities are. It's way past time to turn this train of rigid, socialist, fear-mongering hate for anything that celebrates Americanism or even a vague religious belief around and get back to some sensible thinking where we stop apologizing for being a freedom-loving, democratic and most successful nation in modern history, bar none.

But if the ability to coerce and intimidate is your idea of democracy, you might want to consider some summer school courses.

I guess to a Stalinist like you, a group of people presenting their grievences to elected officials is somehow coercing and intimidating them.
