Historians can debate about it, but the NFL declared Latrobe the birthplace of pro football. It even says as much at the Latrobe stadium. The NFL has spoken.

The birthplace of Rolling Rock; the birthplace of pro football. It does have a certain symmetry to it. Was Rolling Rock a sponsor for the 1895 Latrobe team?

It is also among the towns claiming to have "invented" the banana split. But Latrobe Brewing has only been around since the early 1900s, with the Rolling Rock name being coined in 1913(?). Something like that.
