The birthplace of Rolling Rock; the birthplace of pro football. It does have a certain symmetry to it. Was Rolling Rock a sponsor for the 1895 Latrobe team?

It is also among the towns claiming to have "invented" the banana split. But Latrobe Brewing has only been around since the early 1900s, with the Rolling Rock name being coined in 1913(?). Something like that.

I live a short distance from Seymour, Wisconsin, the "home of the hamburger". It was invented in 1885 by a Charles Nagreen, and served at the county fair.

My hometown of Appleton was the home of Senator Joe McCarty, the childhood home of Harry Houdini, and is the headquarters of the John Birch Society. Lest you think we are entirely conservative, this is also the home of Greta Van Susteren (sorry). Appleton was the site of the world's first hydroelectric plant, as well as the first home to be lit by electric lights.

Other illustrious Appletonians include Rocky Bleier (you may have heard of him--he went to the same high school I did), novelist Edna Ferber, and actor Willem Dafoe. Campbell Scott attended my alma mater, Lawrence University, and Harrison Ford is Ripon College's most famous dropout.
