Making changes to the Self-Search function, and in particular, how the database is organized in relation to Self-Search.
Self-Searches should now be lightning quick and should span many months. The current index holds about 6 months of data (all I have available.)

I'm far too intimidated to do the "all" thing, it's out of my league and puts me under far too much pressure. No matter what you change on FR, you will have to drag me kicking and screaming into the 2000's. I don't even have caller id, or know how to work the VCR, these new changes will take me a month in order to stablize myself, tee hee.

Those are some interesting suggestions that could be incorporated into the preferences page. A quick note to John might result in his adding them in.
Be sure to exlain them well, so there's no doubt about what you're trying to accomplish.

When you flag "All" it is not ONLY to you. Do you see that? So I didnt see you had posted on a thread where I had written a reply to "ALL". I will gladly leave you out of "ALL" and address it to "ALL EXCEPT RNMOMOF7". Sheese, don't take it personally, no one really wants to reply to ya anyhow.And that is the problem Hog..ya seem like a nice guy (some of my best friend ride Harleys)..but I have little interest in this thread,,and right now there is a limited Self seach list..things I wanted to keep for links have been wiped out with all the dump playing..
GEEEEEE it isnt personal..I WANT MY SELF SEARCH LEFT ALONE!

I like the all feature too. Okay, I agree, maybe there should be a choice to turn it off, if someone wants to. I miss being able to write in little comments next to my name though. :-)

I only got one question : wheres my buddy Jimrob and how is he? I saw him at the Fresno "Support Our Troops Rally" last night. He is doing great. He was having a great time waving the flag for our troops. Today he is probably in Modesto FReeping Condit again. He's a busy guy. :-)

I think another helpful solution to the "all" problem would be to have to ability on self-search to differentiate between "all" flags and "personal" flags. A simple "to: All" instead of "to: Irma" on my self-search would solve this problem. Then I could pick and choose which threads I want to open.

Just two ways on that.
- Have a preference to turn it off for an individual user (in receiving it)
- "Whack" a "gratuitous user" by suspending "all" privileges =:-o

I do see the problem with people assessing what is a valid reason to use the "all" function. In this case I thought it would be valid to ask those who had been complaining for input of suggestions to improve on my thoughts.
If you feel that removing the "all" feature is the only resolution to the problem, then that's your valid suggestion.
Looks like your opinion was adopted too, at least for the time being.
Congrats Harley_hog, it only took you a few short hours to get rid of a feature I've been desiring for years.
